Well, Blizzard design their world to be fairly densely packed with content. That means you don't have vast open landscapes which take 25 minutes to get across. I think that's a good thing. There still are little secrets to be found here and there, but I guess it's usually not all too hard to find them.

I'd rather have smaller, densely packed (within reason) zones that giant sprawling zones mostly filled with nothing interesting. That way I spend my time actually exploring and seeing things rather than just trudging across landscape that's pretty much the same as the landscape I've been trudging across for the past 20 minutes.
