EverQuest Expanding Again

16

Can there ever be too many EverQuest expansions? Sony certainly doesn't think so as they have announced development of The Serpent's Spine. The digital download, available this September for $29.99, will increase the level cap and add a new player race, a new starting city, additional spells, content for players levels 1 through 75 and more.

Has anyone given Everquest 2 another try? I keep coming back to it. I get bored with WoW and I'll play EQ2 for a few weeks and then go back to WoW. What's weird is this time EQ2 really finally feels like a fun game. With each patch they make it more and more WoW like while staying true to EQ. So now there isn't as much straight grinding, there are way more quests, and the overall game isn't quite as hard...plus it seems there are many more loot drops now. Overall, I'm having a lot of fun with the game. Based on what I saw on on that MMORPG chart though the numbers are already starting to dwindle.

I played it a few months ago and enjoyed it - only reason I didn't keep playing is my friends are all trapped in the embrace of WoW ;)

I've been playing it again since March, and with the expansion and changes, it's a really good game. I'd say overall, the people are much more mature than WoW. There are many married couples in my guild. The engine is still demanding, I wouldn't play EQ2 without 2GB RAM, it's just too frustrating with the jerkiness and out of memory errors with 1GB.

With each patch or do you mean with each $10-$15 'adventure' pack. So does this mean I am going to have to pay $100 in order to get the experience you are getting?

Adventure packs are generally a set missions that follow one story arc. EQ 2 adds tons of free missions, voiceovers and content regularly with the patches. Of course I doubt you care since all you do is troll EQ and BF threads.

The adventure packs aren't necessary but if you want them, 1 is $4.99, the other 2 are $7.99.

I can never get past EQ2's graphics. I think they look horrible and there is no unifying theme. Also after using WOW's interface the EQ2 one pales in comparison, especially with all the great WOW addons.

What's funny is that it's near impossible to raid in WoW without add-ons. It's so lame to have a UI that does the raiding for you. Automatically curing, giving timers for boss AEs, etc.

I only use 1 EQ2 UI add on, and that's for better in-game maps. The EQ2 default UI is more than adequate (You can resize and create any amount of toolbar in any shape), unlike the WoW UI, which really needs to be modded to make it good.

If you have the RAM and Video Card, EQ2 is quite beautiful. But it's all personal taste I suppose. I liked WoW, and the engine certainly ran a lot better on lower end machines. The cartoony graphics were interesting and very vibrant. They went for more realism (lol realism in fantasy), but you know what I mean. With the new sets of models for EQ2, I like the characters much better (you don't get those with the trial unfortunately).

It's unfortunate EQ2 gets all the graphical bashing it does. It deserves some negative critique for the high sys requirements, and on low end machines the textures suck (as well as performance). But on a good system it's quite beautiful and does pull you in to the fantasy. I really hate how the majority of people are either pro-WoW graphics or pro-EQ2, not both. I like both games graphics, for different reasons.
