Meh, Alienware. I always wondered how they stayed in business. Seems that anyone who actually knew enough about computers to understand why their top-end systems were good also knew enough to put together the same top-end system for a lot less than the $3K+ that they ask for them.

The fact is the newest shit doesn't hit retail till much after Alienware has it. If your pocket is full of cash and you want the best of the best as soon as it's available, they've got the market cornered. I did it once and had a great experience with them. However, I don't support alienware anymore because when I tried to buy a second PC from them they told me they had the parts to build, charged my CC, and made me wait 2 MONTHS before I called and cancelled the order. WTF a bank doen't give me a loan for 4k without any interest, I was paying interest though on a PC they weren't even close to building. I was sure it was against the law but I never persued it because they could always say it's fair to charge before building because they were processing the order. In short, I recommend against using Alienware for anything at all, even if your a spoiled brat with tons of cash.

Same with Falcon Northwest. I had a rather nice windfall in money and ordered a machine from them. The current gen was substantially <FN's and still took a couple of months before it hit retail.

For the record, it is illegal for any store to charge your CC before physically shipping the product. They can "pre-charge" the amount but can't run it until confirming that it has been sent.
