Core 2 Duo Benchmarking
AnandTech's Computex coverage includes this Core 2 Duo (Conroe) benchmarking article, where they independently assembled a machine for testing. Gaming performance was tested with Quake 4, Battlefield 2 and F.E.A.R.

would of been nice if they benchmarked more than just the top of the line Core 2 Duo.

I have to guess that the main stream and entry Core 2 Duo chips aren't going to be significantly faster than the amd 64 x2 line. There are still pricing some intel pentium d chips above them. Something intel wouldn't do unless those chips stock are faster than Core 2 Duo. In fact to stock Core 2 Duos may not be faster than the amd 64 x2 line at all. However I bet the Core 2 Duo chips are going to be sweet over clockers.

this says otherwise: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5692&page=3
says even the E6600 @ ~$300 beats out the top end AMD x2 FX-62 chip, but haven't seen any other benchmarks other than this site on the mid-range Core 2 Duo chips.
