Is Atari Crazy?! These Prices are Bonkers!!

During the furor of E3, Atari quietly announced a surprising promotion. All of the publisher's games for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and PC--all of them, with the sole exception of Dungeons & Dragons: Stormreach (PC)--will have their prices dropped to $19.99 as of June 1. Additionally, all of the company's PC titles will become available for direct download via the Direct2Drive download service as well as "Valve" (presumably meaning Valve's Steam content delivery system).
"Atari is committed to providing great gaming experiences to the largest possible audience," said Atari, Inc. Chief Executive Officer Bruno Bonnell. "With our GamersFirst program, Atari is taking another step forward to make our unique catalogue of games more accessible to everyone. We are proud to announce our unique GamersFirst $19.99 program and reaffirm our commitment to consumers."

Dubbed GamersFIRST, the program comes in the wake of ongoing financial troubles which have included selling studios, downsizing, and failing to meet minimum stock prices. As of now, the company's games for next-gen systems as well as for the newer DS and PSP portables appear to be keeping with current pricing schemes.
