TimeShift Shifts Publishers

10

GameSpot reports that Vivendi Universal Games is now the publisher of TimeShift, once an Atari title. The game was supposed to come out soon, but it's unknown when the game will be released now; "We are going to release the product when it's ready". The Xbox version also seems to be cancelled, with the game only due on PC and Xbox 360 now.

This game is absolutely awful in all regards. Interestingly enough, the producer of it left for Vivendi a few weeks ago. I thought it was because he realized he didn't want his name associated with this game, but perhaps he's still working on it over there.

You know a game is bad when not even Atari will publish it!

how do you know the game is so bad? are you just infering from the events surrounding it or have you played it or know someone with a lot of hands on experience?

well the full game would have to be 100% different from the demo to not be bad.

it was that terrible? this makes me sad, the description of 'time grenades' in multiplayer had got my attention piqued for this title. I almost even just dropped the $10 on the OXM mag just to play the demo.

This was supposed to be one of Atari's flagship titles that was going to turn around their poor sales. The fact that they are selling it off is a warning sign right there. And I'm sure if Atari lifts the NDA they had for their single player beta, you'd hear a lot of bad things about the game.

There's been no updates to the SP Beta since it started - always promised to be 'coming soon', but we haven't got anything yet. MP testing was also coming soon, but still waiting for that.

The SP is better than what the demo showed, but that's not saying much.

My guess is the reason there was no SP beta updates, or MP beta at all; was because at that point Atari was already trying to sell the game. No point in doing QA and work on a game that you're desperate to dump.

              You're probably right.

The Atari Timeshift beta test forum is pretty dead, and no announcement/discussion about this news as yet.

The demo was terrible. The graphics were okay but had a terrible use of colour like Daikatana. The weapons were poor, and the time powers were used pretty stupidly, like to get past fire you would have to pause time, what does that really add to gameplay? F.E.A.R. had a simple time slowing effect and is a better game.

Don't forget Max Payne which may have started the bullet time thing. And that game was better than both these.
