Was quite a good article in PCZone (uk mag) saying how it's almost an injustice that EQ2 doesn't get enough love. Especially considering how the devs have obviously worked very hard on making the game very solid and distancing itself from the original EQ.

I agree. People do not give EQ2 enough credit. It hasn't tried to actively advance the genre and it still employs some older conventions and mechanics found in previous generation MMOGs, but it is still a well designed and enjoyable game that will age very well (especially graphically) in the next several years, compared to other MMOGs that have been released recently or will be released soon.

When you turn up all the bells and whistles the game is very pleasing to the eye and the broad selection of classes (and the ability for any race to be any class) gives it a familiar standard fantasy feel while allowing players to make very unique characters.

It may have some downfalls, such as using a large collection of zones rather than a more seamless geography and a somewhat awkward method of loot distribution, but it's still a solid game.

That's fine and all, but I don't want to have to buy the original game, and then spend an additional $50 for all the expansions and 'adventure packs' that they've been nickling and diming since release.

While Blizzard has it's faults, they've released tons of content all included in the $15 a month fee..what has EQ2 done?

A lot of little things that I think most wouldn't appreciate if they don't play EQ2.

Things like voice pack additions, music, the SOGA models, quests. The adventure packs run like $5 to $10 while the expansion packs knock on $30.

Free is always better but it's not like they are in your wallet, bank account, CC, and taking every penny under the couch cushion for the adventure packs.

You don't need the adventure packs or expansions to paly the game. Only buy what you want. It is a damn solid game.

well, to me, it's the principle of the matter. A lot of the 'adventure packs' seem to me should have been included in the $15 a month fee. Some of that, like voice packs, seems like stuff that should have been included in the original game.

              But whatever floats your boat.

They've still added new areas and a lot of other new things that are free (the free updates are the best I've seen in any MMORPG i've played), plus the actual game is a lot cheaper than WoW. I agree the packs maybe do put people off but probably as a misunderstanding, I didn't buy a single extra for EQ2 when I played it.

What does that matter? Stop looking at the details and just determine if it is fun or not. If it is fun, it is worth the cash. If it isn't, then cancel and don't play, right?
