Sunday Afternoon ShackReviews

Hey hey, it's the red-headed stepchild of Shacknews, the ShackReviews database update! Although it's a thin release week, there's still some interesting titles hitting store shelves. Is Killer7 worth the wait? Are 9 new maps for Halo 2 worth $20? Is Coded Arms the next PSP game worth buying after Lumines? Does anyone care about Echo and adventure games anymore? As always, if there's a game you want in the database, see if it's already there and if not, request it!
Featured ShackReviews:

Typically, this little portion of SAS is used to relate my gaming experiences the past week, but to be honest, I sure as shit didn't play anything. So uhm... yea. I guess.. so long and thanks for all the fish?

I'd say that Hot Shots Golf comes pretty close, save the fact that sports games don't have universal popularity. If anything, my money will be on GTA: Liberty City Stories as the next must-have PSP title.

i just find it funny that people are getting all hyped up about Coded Arms when:

        a) Everyone that has played it has complained about the control sucking
        b) Videos showing off the action are careful to not show much movement on the Z-axis (for obvious reasons. See point a)
        c) It's just a generic run and gun

Don't take my word for it though: http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/920834.asp

I tried to be optimistic, but they really dropped the ball. The only thing the game has going for it is pretty screenshots. Oh fucking joy.

I agree that Hot Shots is nice, as is Wipeout Pure. I really want to play Metal Gear Acid, mainly because it's a Metal Gear game and it's not part of the Solid subseries (thank god)

Acid is pretty cool if you're into turn-based games. The story is horrible, though.

Can't be worse than Solid 2, and I'm a sucker for turn based games. :(

Then get Ac!d. I really like it. The story's gibberish, but that's the price for playing any MGS game. It's no worse than any other one.

No, trust me, it definitely could be. It's one of the most nonsensical stories I've ever encountered. It's still definitely worth playing, though, as the gameplay is great. The framerate can be pretty bad in spots, though.

How much does the framerate matter for a turnbased game though?

It's just annoying, mostly. It causes the camera to be pretty sluggish when you're attempting to move it around and check out the room that you're in, and the explosions will usually take something like twice as long as they should. It doesn't break the game or anything, but it's pervasive enough to be a big drawback to the game, imo. Hopefully they'll work out the issues for the next game.
