The Future of Windows Gaming

13

GameDaily.biz has an informative interview with Microsoft's Chris Donahue, head of the Developer Relations team for Windows Graphics and Gaming Technologies. He talks at great lengths about DirectX, the gaming capabilities of Longhorn, cross-over technology of the PC and Xbox 360, and even comments about ATI vs. nVidia.

Windows gaming is kind of the Energizer bunny of gaming platforms - it just keeps going and going. And it keeps on innovating. With Longhorn, we're looking at how we can eliminate pain points for consumers, while opening up other genres through things like Microsoft's universal gaming controller standard, which will give gamers more choices about how to play games on Windows.
A couple other ideas they have to eliminate the "pain points" is to create a new display driver model for improved stability and speeding up the install process. With the Xbox 360 controller being compatible with the PC and Microsoft supporting technology that wouldn't require the installation of a game before getting to play it, it appears Microsoft is trying hard to streamline the entire process.. making the PC function the same way as console.

Here's to hoping Longhorn removes the possiblity (or at least the need) to use StarForce and similar crap.
