Rent-A-MMO-Account
A new service launched this week that gives gamers the opportunity to rent an already pre-leveled account for one of 15 MMOs. The service is called GamePal and with just a $300 deposit and the $150 payment for the first month, you can be on your way as that level 60 warlock in World of Warcraft. Fifty accounts are available to pick from and renters are able to hold onto it as long as they like, paying only $130 each month after the first. Potential customers, be careful; developers are already sounding off on this idea.
"It sounds like that's pretty much a violation of our terms of service," said Chris Kramer, director of public relations for Sony Online Entertainment, publisher of EverQuest and Star Wars Galaxies, among others. "Part of having an ... account is that you're not supposed to share your information with other players."A $450 start-up fee, eh? Sure, I get $300 back, but that's still a hefty price just to get started. It's $300 I'll never see as long as I'm renting a character and it can be gone forever if I break GamePal's rules, such as losing an item or getting de-leveled by a GM. I don't play many MMOs, but I know quite a few peeps that maxed out in WoW within their first month; that sounds like the better bargain to me!
