New CL Portable MP3 Players

1
Saw this story on Yahoo about two new portable MP3 players by Creative Labs. No idea how freaking much this one is gonna cost but one of them, the Creative NOMAD Jukebox, can store 6gb instead of the standard wimpy 32/64mb. And it's still the size of a portable CD-player. Now that is some serious good space for your MP3 collection :)

The Creative NOMAD Jukebox is a USB, multi-format portable audio player/recorder. This new light-weight (14oz.) digital audio player, in the size of a CD disc player, features high capacity storage capabilities with 6GB of built-in storage that holds an entire music collection (over 150 albums) or up to 2,600 hours of spoken word. It features a Line-In for analog recording from external sources and dual Line-Out connections ideal for connecting a four-speaker system such as Cambridge SoundWorks, Inc.'s FourPointSurround FPS2000 Digital. Unlike other hardware-based solutions, the NOMAD Jukebox also features an onboard real-time digital signal processor (DSP) for superior audio playback and customization. A Headphone-Out jack supports headphone spatialization and equalizer effects. This SDMI-capable portable digital audio player supports multiple formats including MP3, WMA and WAV file formats. Unlike other hardware-based solutions, the NOMAD Jukebox also features an onboard real-time effects processor for superior audio playback and customization. The NOMAD Jukebox also supports downloadable features including new effects algorithms, security features, and auto playlist generators.

They also announced the Creative NOMAD II MG, but that's just some pussy 64mb player :)

I can only think of two ways to get 6GB into the size of a portable CD player:
    1. some kind of fixed optical media, like a DVD
    2. a hard disk

If it\'s #1, it\'ll either skip like crazy or suck battery power.
If it\'s #2, it\'ll probably turn into a doorstop the first time you drop it (and prolly
    suck batter power too).

Sure, a 64MB flash player doesn\'t hold much, but it doesn\'t skip at all and
runs for hours on either one AA or two AAA batteries. One of the main reasons
I want to get a flash-based player is to cut down on my battery consumption,
so I don\'t see how a super-duper-6GB player would be so cool if it uses batteries
even faster than a CD player, and/or skips like one. Plus, judging from that 4.6GB
player that was announced by someone-or-other a few months ago, it\'ll probably
cost a fortune (the 4.6 gigger listed at some $800+).
