Matrix Online Sold to SOE

42

Not quite official yet, but it's pretty clear at this point that Sony Online Entertainment has acquired from Monolith both The Matrix Online and an in-development DC Comics MMO. This move marks the end of Monolith's MMO productions and it is being reported that certain staff members have been given a 60 day notice whereas others are being offered positions at SOE. The DC Comics MMO hasn't been announced yet, so hopefully more will be revealed whenever SOE and Monolith make an official announcement. Looks like City of Heroes has a bit of competition while they battle Marvel in court.

Hmm, I was more referring to monopolistic practices and slave labour hours, not marketshare

Monoply? Hardly, I don't think Monolith wanted to keep the property.

Warner Brothers owns both Monolith and the Matrix property. They were probably :

          A) Unhappy with the handling of the Matrix IP by Monolith
          B) Figured SOE would do a better job making them money with the Matrix IP
          C) The ship was sinking and they wanted to salvage whatever they can out of the Matrix IP selling it off to anyone as soon as possible.

I don't think they will, but mainly because EQ2 wasn't a worldwide release like WoW was. In the end nobody has shit on lineage subscriber #'s. Although WoW probably will eventually, especially if Blizzard whips out an expansion.

Actually according to that link WoW does have more subscribers than all of SOE's MMO's combined.

yes, but i was shitting on his "All games combined don't have 1/4 the subscriber of wow" claim.

That and he didn't even bother specifying SOE.
