Blizzard Entertainment today announced the latest subscriber numbers for World of Warcraft, showing that they have 2 million paying players in North America, Europe and South Korea. Back in March the company had already signed up 1.5 million people. World of Warcraft recently launched in China, and will be released in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau later this year.

I always wanna buy this and then I see people complaining about down times and funky patches. Is the time to get this now or should I wait?

there's scheduled maintenance, which doesnt last too long, but when they release new patches, servers can be down for a long time.
and of course patches always introduce controversial changes, since there's always some group getting nerfed to make the game better overall.
but there certainly are no major issues like the first few months. as far as i understand it anyway.

I think you need to put people's comments in perspective. Downtime was a bit of a problem (things are a lot better now), but not as big as you might think reading player's comments. Just ignore the patch-bitching. That is a common nuisance with popular games.

I havnt had any show stopping bugs or downtime since release. The only people bitching are the ones that hopped on over crowded servers and refused to reroll their lvl 10 noobie after they figured it out.

The game is great. Even on "patch days" you are usually able to get on and play at some point that night. If not, it is like 1 day a month, so it really isn't an issue. Just don't plan your "one day a week of hardcore gaming" to be Tuesday.

The game is great if you have a lot of time to waste on one game, (I should know I spent a lot of time on this game and ultimately burnned out at 58 before i even hit cap.).

If you don't, well, your time will be better spent elsewhere. There is no place for the casual gamer past level 60.

The game is a blast and I have been hooked since it started! The problem for my server is we are actually seeing an increase in lag and a promise from each patch to fix that issue with no actual correction. Other than dealing with the lag the game is exceptionally fun but as one person said, takes a lot of time!

99.9% of the time they are playing the game hours on end. That 1% of the time when wow goofs up they come here and SCREAM WHERE'S MY WOW?!? Ah yes, the life of an addict :D

I wouldn't bother with WoW, here is the whole game:
      Kill 10 of these things
Pick up 10 of these things
      Deliver this

And that is 95% of the game ruined for you.
