Late Night Consoling

31
Following up on my Star Wars intro from a couple nights ago, I've been plodding along in Republic Commando and the final product is way more entertaining than the demo that was released. I tried both the PC and Xbox demos and I was severely disappointed; glad to see it turned out all right. In the mean time, I've been neglecting Revenge of the Sith for the Xbox. There's just something about a PC FPS that places a certain stranglehold on me. I think it's the ability to just jump in and out of the action that makes it appealing, whereas most console games rely on save points placed at the beginning and end of missions. Although, after reading Konquest's CGOTE submission, I have a hankerin' for some classic Star Wars gaming. Anyone remember ESB on the NES? Oh man, that was torture!
  • Microsoft Hints at Xbox 360's Price

    [xbox]

The face of the Xbox 360, J Allard, gave an interview to TheStreet.com and revealed a ballpark price for the upcoming Xbox 360. When asked if it would be higher or lower than the Xbox's launch price, Allard answered, "It's going to be in the neighborhood." It's highly improbably it'll launch under $300 and $400 is probably asking too much. Could we see a price of $360?

  • Koei Plans Three for PS3

    [ps2]

Koei had already announced Ni-Oh for the PS3 at E3 but GameSpot has learned that the company has two other titles in development. No details were specified concerning the titles, but considering that it's Koei, I'm sure both are sequels for Kessen and Dynasty Warriors.

  • Activision Acquires Beenox

Activision announced that it had acquired the independent developer Beenox. The Canadian company had worked on Shrek 2 and Tony Hawk's Underground 2 in the past and is currently developing Fantastic Four. The management and a few employees have signed long term contracts and the studio will remain in Quebec City.

  • Hideo Kojima Talks Next-Gen

Okay, I know this isn't necessarily hard news, but since we've been making fun of the stuff people have said lately, I figured you'd enjoy this. Here's what the creator of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, had to say about the next-generation consoles. "If you allow me to express the three hardware platforms in a funny example, PS3 would be like a dinner that you only have once a year or twice a year on your anniversary etc. Xbox 360 will still be a special dinner so you might go there two or three times a month on the weekend or something. Revolution is the kind of great dinner that you have everyday at your home. What I want to emphasize is that all three are dinners meaning that they have a salad, they have a soup and maybe have a dessert but they are a little differently, maybe other dinners have two salads or two appetizers or maybe extra coffee on top of that. The point is that they are all individualistic dinners. So if they are all dinners, like a steak dinner, the choice is up to the users and the game designers at the same time."
