On Battlefield 2 Ranking

7

It was recently announced that only EA's official Battlefield 2 servers would allow stats tracking/ranking, causing quite a stir in that community. Boomtown has a clarification from EA on why this is, and the reason is simple..they are fearful of the system being hacked. At this time they don't see how they can ensure the security of the system on public servers.

Great, so people will just have to do without the rank stuff since most servers out there aren't the official ones. But the idea of not giving people access to various weapons in the game because of it? Lame...

Servers can still run their own rankings from what I've read, they just won't be global stats.

I personally don't care about ranking, I just care that I won't be able to use all the weapons that are available in the game because I'm not playing on an EA server.

I can't get to the article (i think my ISP is doing some DNS work) what do they say about not being able to use certain weapons?

That to unlock certain weapons, you'll have to achieve a certain rank first. So people who don't care about EA's servers, will never be able to use part of the game, ie. those hidden weapons. Private server operators won't be able to to unlock all the weapons on their own.

No, private servers can do anything they want, the whole issue is they can't send the stats they gather to the global EA master stats server.
