Namco x Capcom is such a misleading title. When I first read it, my mind instantly thought of some dream battles; Ryu vs. Jin Kazama or Morrigan vs. Ivy. I guess it can still happen, I'll just have to move them around a grid and press the circle button a bunch. =( Also, what's up with Europe getting all the neat bundles? Sure, they get some stinkers like the Tribal GBA SP, but a RE4 bundle would be killer over here. I guess that's what we get for supporting good games and not forcing Nintendo to do whatever they can to gain regional market share.
  • Namco x Capcom

    [ps2]

Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu revealed a new title today, Namco x Capcom, which will be a joint project between, yup, you guessed it, Namco and Capcom. However, it is being developed by Monolith Soft, developers of Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos. Wait, an RPG developer working on a dream fighter? Well, hate to break it to ya, but no Heihachi vs. Akuma here. This will be a strategy RPG that features characters from a wide range of series. The game world is in 3D, but the battles are 2D with anime-style sequences. The story revolves around a time/space continuum tear or something crazy like that where characters from different universes are popping up.

  • Nintendo's Money Game

    [nintendo]

Reuters is reporting that Nintendo's third quarter 2004 profits fell 43% compared to last year. Although it had great Nintendo DS sales, the lack of interest in the GameCube is what caused the slump. However, that doesn't mean Nintendo wasn't profitable, it just wasn't as profitable. The Big-N still made just under $607 million. In related news, Hiroshi Yamauchi gave as a gift 5,000 shares of Nintendo stock to Seattle Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki. The stock is worth a little over half a million dollars. Nintendo owns over 50% of the ball club.

  • Celebs Bid on Exclusive Nintendo DS Systems

At the Sundance Film Festival, movie celebrities engaged in a friendly bidding war over three exclusive Nintendo DS systems. Actor Jay Mohr paid the biggest price, $10,000 for a NDS with a swirling blue metallic pattern. Poppy Montgomery and Alan Cumming won the other two, spending $2,500 and $1,500 respectively. Nintendo added some cash to the bids and all the proceeds went to charity, a total donation of $31,000.

According to IGN, many media outlets in Europe are reporting that Sega plans to release a PSP version of Virtua Tennis in Europe. Lufia II for the Super Nintendo. "One of the last great RPGs made on the SNES, heavier on puzzles than most. Interesting story, colorful characters, awesome localization, great music, ridiculously hard bonus dungeon, and just tons of fun." (submitted by omnova).

Nothing Xbox related has yet to turn any kind of profit. Sony I'm sure is rolling in the bucks though.

so does the gamecube! i'm sure a lot of money is going into supporting xboxlive. but all the money microsoft invests this time around will really help them out next generation.

        yes, MS is dirt poor.

at this stage of the game, it's all about marketshare and mindshare.

I'm pretty sure MS has written the Xbox 1 off by now.

I'm pretty sure they wrote it off before they even launched it

That said, I bet it's bringing in some serious revenue. It's probably profitable now on a per quarter basis, even if it hasn't turned an overall profit yet.

No, it's not. They consistently lose money with each console, and as good as their games-per-console ratio is, they're still not in the black.

It doesn't really matter; it's not like they've got a shortage of cash.

no, with their current attach rate of 6.7 games per console, along with the greatly reduced cost of building X Boxes, they are most certainly in the black on a per X Box basis.

They might still be losing money due to marketing costs, however.

They most certainly have not recouped the initial $500 million marketing blitz.

how much of a loss are they taking on each console? Has it not become cheaper to make the xbox?

yes, it has. and that's why they got into that argument with nvidia and that's why nvidia is not making the GPU for xbox 2.
