New EverQuest Expansion Announced

10

Just because EverQuest 2 launched doesn't mean SOE is abandoning the original game. Instead, they are releasing a new expansion pack next month called Dragons of Norrath. Available in stores or by download next month for $29.99, Dragons of Norrath includes new zones and new creatures, a player barter system, new spells, and new Guild Hall management tools among other new features.

    It would be interesting to see what someone would have spent on this game if they had bought the original, played from the beginning, and also bought every expansion. Doesn't this game have like, 11 expansions? Plus 5 or so years at $12.95 a month or whatever they charge?

    I bet it's a lot.

        When I played EQ I barely played any other games out there. My playstation collected dust. Hell, I probably saved some cash on a friday night as well. Drinks are expensive.

      Around $800, give or take 30 bucks.
      The original monthly rate was only 9.99, so that cuts some off the price. However the price did just after the first two years.
      Also the release and later expansions normally aren't over 39 bucks at the most. I believe most were 29.99.

      EQ=50
      RoK=30
      SoV=30
      SoL=30
      PoP=30
      LoY=30
      LDoN=30
      GoD=30
      OoW=30
      =$290+Tax

      Then monthly:
      2 years @ 9.95 = $239
      3 years @ 12.95 = $466

      Grand Total: Damn close to $1,000.

      Then there were people who spent $40\month to play on their Legends server when it opened.

        Most of the people preordered those expansions at $15-20 a pop. Nobody paid full retail for each expansion. if you came on late you got the first 3-4 for $50.

          Err, they were always 30 bucks. ALWAYS. I pre-ordered them from EBGames myself, and they were still $29.99

        And, to add on to that, there are people with more than one account AND have all of the expansions...

          Heh, how about six or more boxers, they spent quite the cash on it, but they also farmed stuff like Solro or runes in Oow and ebayed a lot of plat or items. However as others said before, when we played EQ hardcore there wasn't much else, I actually calculated that with not buying a lot of games which I kinda wanted, heard they sucked anyway, and not going out for years drinking I'm pretty sure I saved a lot of money. MMO games are probably the cheapest entertainment around if you see how much you pay for it over years. Just add up the cable bill over the same amount of time.
