EverQuest 2 Updates Coming

9

GameSpot has a story up about EverQuest 2 updates, which are being rolled out soon. Known as an "adventure pack", these updates will offer a more engrossing story for its players, along with new quests, monsters, items, etc. The first update will be free, but there will be an unspecified "small fee" for future downloads. No release date is mentioned but Sony Online Entertainment should formally announce their plans next week.

Mixed feelings about this. Mmorpgs have a ton of annoying features about them but one good thing is that you do get constant updates and an evolving game paid for by your monthly fee.

So it's kinda dumb to start charging you for that. However I think these extra zones are you usually done in expansion packs so if their going to start offering them for a very "small fee" outside expansion packs then it might not be so bad.

As long as they still give the normal updates you expect from an mmorpg and they did just release a pretty big content patch yesterday (two dungeons and tons of extra solo quests)

what is a "small fee" to a million or billion dollar company?

They still budget. It's like what Neverwinter nights did with their modules. If SOE give people extra stuff on top of expected updates for a small fee then its OK. If their expected updates and content are less because of this then its not OK.
