Since D3 and HL2 failed to be the multiplayer games for the masses (at least for me), this is one game I'm looking forward to. March 2005 couldn't feel more far away...

I don't know, they make it sound an awful lot like Desert Combat.

Indeed, the pace also made organization possible. DC was so fast that it turned into every man for himself--there was no point in getting an army of tanks to head out together, since one helicopter could spam them with missiles and blow them up pretty easily. And infantry couldn't keep up with vehicles, making combined infantry/vehicle attacks difficult.

On the plus side, the commander system and squad-level voice-comm could make teamwork feasible.

I could have done without some of the rocking and bouncing in the Tiger, though. Still, I know what you mean. People made a concerted effort to stop an incoming Tiger. In DC it's more like "oh, another tank, ho hum, BOOM". And the shell trajectories are so flat; aiming is too easy.

I like Desert Combat, but I stay away from aircraft-heavy maps (Bocage, No Fly Zone, etc). The infantry-heavy ones (Lost Village, Sea Rigs, Al Whatever Docks, etc) are the ones that I really like.

Yes, it does, although I see a lot of ET/RTCW thrown in for good measure. Not a bad thing though, gotta wait and see.

Yeah it really does seem like the commercial version of DC... that article summed it up how it's about speed and vehicles.
