That sucks that you have to be located there. I figured since it would be a contract job, you could be located anywhere. Oh well, so much for that.-

sounds to me that they want to hire full time employees, but just dont want to bother with actually paying them full time employee wages or giving them an office...

I started out as a contractor at Gearbox and worked my way up to a salary earning position. The C.O.G.S. program is fantastic and truly rewards those who work hard and have proven talent. When people are intially contracting they are usually in larger rooms with one another. This however is not because the guys here are "cheap", I personally wouldn't be inclined to lock myself into a lease for more office space if I wasn't sure how things were going to work out.
Once I joined the team permanently I was given a huge office with an amazing 9th floor view, they bought us desks, phones, etc etc. Gearbox takes care of its peoples. (plus we have the largest snack room you've ever seen! :) ).
The owners at this company have been extremely generous to me and the rest of the previous contractors. ( now full-time employees of Gearbox Software). I have nothing but great things to say about this team, and this program.
