Late Night Consoling
The lack of images from the midnight madness sales disappoints me. >=( I find those moments of waiting in huge lines with your fellow gaming comrades to be rather enjoyable experiences. Both GameSpot and Game Informer have their own write-ups of local launches and I highly recommend checking out the video linked below. It makes me wonder; could the launch of Halo 2 be one of the most anticipated launches of ANYTHING? Were there more gamers waiting for Halo 2 last night than there were people lining up for Episode I movie tickets? With hundreds of stores open at midnight and with hundreds of gamers lining up at many of those stores, the number of people waiting to get their copy must be staggering.
$100 Million Halo 2 First Day Sales? That's what Microsoft's VP of retail sales and marketing believes! Reuters nabbed this nugget from the never-lost-for-words Peter Moore: "I'm calling a $100 million day on 'Halo' today." With 1.5 million units of the game pre-sold, the guy definitely isn't off his knocker. Microsoft expects to sell 10 million units overall, with five million of those sales coming in November alone. The original Halo has so far generated five million units sold worldwide.
Digital Illusions Expands Console Activity The famed developers responsible for the Battlefield series has made it known they intend to develop two titles for the upcoming "next-gen" systems by Microsoft and Sony. The Sweden based developer, affectionately known as DICE, is moving one of its current projects away from current-gen development and taking two years to refine it for future consoles. DICE CEO Patrick Soderlund said, "The game features ideas and concepts which are a perfect fit for tomorrow's hardware." One of the titles will be co-developed for the Xbox and PS2, with DICE Canada doing the dirty work.
Viewtiful Joe 2 Before Thanksgiving The sequel to Capcom's latest hit, Viewtiful Joe 2, has been bumped up on the company's release schedule, now having it smash onto store shelves November 18. When asked why by IGN, a Capcom representative responded, "We wanted to get this highly anticipated sequel out before the Thanksgiving holiday." Gotta have it ready for Black Friday!
Nike/Gran Turismo Limited Edition What can only be described as one of the more odd team-ups in recent memory, Nike and Sony will be releasing a limited edition version of Gran Turismo 4 that'll bundle the game with a pair of sneakers. Inside a nifty black suitcase will be the game, a Nike/Gran Turismo t-shirt, and a pair of Nike Shox Total Magia II GT Limited Edition sneakers. Only 1,000 of these bundles will be produced and they'll sell for 33,600 yen ($317). If that isn't odd enough, if you use the EyeToy while playing GT4 AND you are wearing the t-shirt, the device will detect the shirt and unlock a special Nike-designed car.

EVERYTHING in this world that people want is "over-hyped". That is how they make money, its to hype products up and people get excited.
Actually in reality I think its people get "over-excited" more so than something being "over-hyped". People are letting their over-excitement set the expectations too high.
