Late Night Consoling
Wouldn't it be great if at E3 2005, all three next-gen consoles are revealed and fully playable? All this talk about components being finished gets you thinking about the next-gen. While the rumor still is we'll get the Xbox Next/2/FS/BBQ before the end of 2005, I don't think we will actually get to try out the games till very close to its release, much like we're seeing now with the Nintendo DS. With such an amazingly strong line-up for this holiday season, I side with Nintendo and Sony that 2005 is way too early to get into the latest console war. Mid to late 2006 sounds just about right.
CELL Processor Nearly Finished Last week, we heard about ATI wrapping up their development of the graphics hardware of the Xbox 2. Today, Toshiba president Tadashi Okamura has responded to earlier reports about the CELL processor nearing completion, confirming that they are close to a final design. The CELL processor will be the brains of Sony's successor to the PlayStation 2 that integrates the use of intensive graphics and broadband communications. "It will change the world," Okamura simply stated to Japanese publication Nikkei Journal. | |
