Late Night Consoling Hurricane Pack Edition
For a person whose life revolves around electronics, losing power for three days is one of the most unbearable situations they can ever experience. Luckily, I had an ample supply of batteries to power my tiny radios and handheld televisions as well as plenty of juice in my two GBA SPs. Charley wrecked havoc in my city of Orlando, but all is well (for me, at least) as power resumed late this afternoon. Now I can continue my franchise in Madden NFL 2005 and bring you up to date in all things consoles. Enjoy the large update as I tried to pick everything up that has happened since Friday morning.
Pirates! to Pillage Xbox Atari has officially announced that Sid Meier's Pirates! will make landfall on the Xbox. The console version will see a later release than the PC version, hitting Microsoft's system in the spring of 2005. The game will be fully-featured with Xbox Live versus capabilities and support of 5.1 surround sound and HDTV display. | |
Evolution Exclusive To Sony The company known for its rally racing games, UK-based Evolution Studios has signed an exclusivity agreement with Sony, bringing the World Rally Championship games to Sony systems only. The company is currently looking at new and original games for Sony's systems, including the PSP. | |
Halo 2 Supports 4-players/1-console Xbox Live Gaming News about leaked information regarding the Halo 2 beta has set the internet ablaze. One tester posted on the Xbox forums some juicy details regarding the multiplayer aspect of the game, most notably that 4 gamers can play over Xbox Live using only one Xbox. The post was quickly deleted, only to reappear on a fan-based gaming site. More info within the link. | |
Knights of the Old Republic Now Platinum LucasArts proudly revealed that its Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the newest member of Microsoft's Platinum Hits lineup, a title given to games that manufacture over 400,000 copies. The game now sports a new $19.99 price tag to go along with its 40 Game of the Year awards. | |
Star Fox, Death by Degrees, Devil May Cry 3 Pushed Back to 2005 Ah, here it comes. That time of the year when Nintendo's holiday line-up is pushed back into the next year. Today's casualty is the new Star Fox title for the GameCube, being developed by Namco, who also revealed that their PS2 title, Death by Degrees, also won't make it out by the end of the calendar year. No reason for either delay was given. At the same time, retailers are now telling pre-order customers to expect Devil May Cry 3 in February of 2005. Psi-Ops: The Movie Hollywood mag Variety reported that the two producers behind the upcoming Spy Hunter flick, Adrian Askarieh and Chuck Gordon, have purchased the movie rights to Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. Askarieh commented, "I've always been interested in the whole idea of psionic powers that have been developed by the government, even though they've been very close-mouthed about admitting they conducted those kind of experiments." The movie is currently planned to follow the same plot as the game. | |
Killzone 2 In The Works According to IGN, Sony has gone ahead and commissioned work on the sequel for the not-yet-released Killzone. IGN questioned developers at Guerilla about the news and they said multiple sequels were always planned. When asked if the title will appear on the PS3, the team quickly put that to rest. However, a PSP version has not been explicitly denied. Supposedly, design documents suggest the game is well past the conceptual stages. | |
ESPN Brings Talent to its Basketball Lineup ESPN Videogames recently made two announcements, the first being the confirmed musical lineup for its upcoming ESPN NBA 2K5. The game will sport music from 22 artists, including Truck & Mack and Del the Funky Homosapian, and will feature over 36 songs. Also, ESPN revealed the signing of Josh Childress to grace the cover of ESPN College Hoops 2K5. He was the sixth pick overall in the 2004 draft, made by the Atlanta Hawks. | |

Mega Man Battle Network 5 Planned Japanese magazine Corocoro Comic has confirmed that Capcom is working on a fifth installment of the Mega Man Battle Network series. The magazine will have a full scoop on the game in its October issue. No other details are available till then. | |
Square Enix Continues Trademark Frenzy GamesAreFun has discovered yet another trademark by Square Enix, this time for a project entitled Dirge of Cerebus. This trademark is similar to the one they made for Dawn of Souls which included a large amount merchandise, such as pens and mousepads. These two, along with Radiata Stories, could be related to the projects of Hironobu Sakaguchi's new studio, Mist Walker. Or, much like Chrono Break, could fizzle out to nothing. | |
