Late Night Consoling

0

I appreciate all of your responses last night on the issues of handling rumors in LNC and incorporating gaming deals into the news topics. Regarding rumors, the path I believe I will take is the one that was most suggested; post the rumors in the comments section. While they are certainly not stuff that should be taken seriously, they do provide for interesting discussions, so whenever I see something "juicy," I'll slap it in the comments. Now before you start calling me a hypocrite with the Xenon story, I will continue to post those rumors that have a decent amount of validity behind them. Yesterday, the Xenon story could've been nothing but a hoax, originating out of nowhere on a forum. Today, however, sites have checked with their developer sources and we're getting comments that back it up. As for the gaming deals, that will be something left to the fine folks at CheapAssGamer.com. Just as bosst0ne astutely pointed out, you can setup a newsfeed for CAG on the Shack Sidebar, so it would be redundant of me to post deals I would most likely pull from their site. Thanks again for the feedback and now on to the incredible scant stories of the night!

Xbox Leaked Xenon Specs Yesterday, the Internet was rife with speculation concerning leaked details regarding the successor to the Xbox, currently codenamed Xenon. A document supposedly written by Peter Isensee of the Xbox Advanced Technology Group has made it rounds and Gamesindustry.biz showed the document to its developer sources for verification. The verdict? The document appears genuine. One developer told GI, "...there's certainly nothing in there which doesn't fit with what they've been telling us. If this is a hoax, which I doubt, it's a hoax so close to the truth that it hardly makes any odds." Probably the most interesting detail is the inclusion of three 3.5Ghz PowerPC G5 CPU cores on a single silicon die. GI hits upon some of the other more interesting bits and the full document can be seen at Xbox-Scene.
PS2 Xbox 2.5 Million Copies of DRIV3R Shipped The game that has been released to mixed reviews is prepped for massive consumption as Atari revealed that they have shipped 2.5 million copies to retailers in North America, Europe, and Australia. Despite its lukewarm reception and coming out near the end of the month, retailer Electronics Boutique predicts that DRIV3R will be one of the top three sellers for June.

  Misc. Media/Previews
PS2 GameSpot starts off the media this evening with a preview of Champions: Return to Arms. They go screenshot crazy with images of Xenosaga: Episode II (hands-on impression here), Jak 3, and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3. Game Informer showcases the import version Silent Hill 4: The Room. They also offer a few details on the FFXI expansion pack, FFXI: Chains of Promathia. GamerFeed takes a hands-on look at The Nightmare Before Christmas as well as previews The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact. The Magic Box has details and screens of Arc the Lad Generation. GCN IGN has a direct feed of Paper Mario 2, showing off some cut-scenes and the turn-based battle system. Tales of Symphonia content just keeps on coming with this hands-on impression by GamerFeed.
GBA N-Gage GameSpot must've spent the day at Nokia as there are hands-on impressions of Crash Nitro Kart (NG) and Virtua Cop (NG) at their site this evening. They also spent time with the portable version of Madden NFL 2005 for the GBA (footage included). GamePro goes hands-on with Digimon Racer (GBA). I wouldn't of expected a kart racer out of that series.

Console Game of the Evening: MotoRoader for the Turbo Grafx-16. "Simple, fun, with several different weapons, this top-down driving game entertained my friends and I for hours. And with the TurboTap you could play it with 5 people." (submitted by Zero|DPX).
