100 Million PlayStations Sold Sony today announced that it has sold a hundred million PlayStations since the console launched in 1994. A very impressive number to be sure, with Sony calling the Playstation the biggest selling games console ever. Sony has also sold 70 million PlayStation 2s since the release of that console in 2000. | |
New Project Gotham Racing 2 Content Microsoft has announced that a "Paris Booster Pack" is now available (nothing shows up for me though) for Project Gotham Racing 2. The download is of the Premium kind, so it'll set you back $4.99. The Paris Booster Pack adds the city of Paris, and also eight cars: Ferrari 288 GTO, BMW 645Ci, Ferrari 365 GTS4 (Daytona), Porsche 356A Carrera Speedster, Ferrari 250TR, Chevrolet Corvette C6, BMW M3 CSL and the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 (not new, but unlocked for people who don't have all Platinums). | |
EA Won't Get Exclusive NFL Player Rights Last night's news about Electronic Arts trying to get exclusive rights to NFL players has been rebutted already, much to the relief of ESPN NFL game fans I'm sure. While EA is working on a new licensing deal with the NFL Players Association, it wouldn't mean the end of player likenesses in non-Madden games. | |
Nintendo DS Interview There's a Nintendo interview on Computer & Video Games, asking Takashi Tezuka about the Nintendo DS handheld. Among other things Tezuka mentions that former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi first came up with the idea to do something with dual screens. | |
Hideo Kojima Interview New on the Electronic Gaming Monthly website is an interview with Hideo Kojima. The game designer is asked about Metal Gear Solid 3, with questions about the "time paradox" message seen in the E3 demo, the jungle setting, the new close-quarters combat, demo plans and a few other things. | |
SVC Chaos Goes Live SNK NeoGeo USA issued this press release, announcing that SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos will ship with Xbox Live support. XNA Interview Eurogamer has a an XNA interview posted, with Microsoft's J Allard answering questions about this development platform and its possible applications. Allard mentions 3DO in the interview, saying the idea of "what we'll do is do a design reference and everyone will build their own implementation" was ahead of its time but that's what Microsoft is hoping for eventually, allowing other hardware manufacturers to make consoles compatible with MS technology. | |
Jak Universe To Live On EuroGamer is reporting that while Jak 3 might be the last in the Jak & Daxter trilogy, Naughty Dog has no plans to give up on the franchise. More games with the two characters might be released, and there's a possibility other characters from the universe get their own game. | |
