Late Night Consoling
Gosh, I spent so much time on tonight's update that I have nothing to put here. Well, I hope my copy of the Official Xbox Magazine arrives tomorrow, as I really want to try out that Ninja Gaiden demo.
Sony, Toshiba Working on Next-Next-Generation Technology We're still a loooong way off from the next generation of console platforms, but that hasn't stopped Sony and Toshiba, as they confirmed today that they are already working on a next-next-generation platform. The planned processor will use a 45 nanometer process, which is significantly smaller than the already obscenely tiny 65 nanometer process used by the CELL technology. Needless to say, this is a long way away.
Ninja Gaiden Delayed (Again) Yep, it's true...Ninja Gaiden has been pushed back again. This time apparently to March 2nd, and hopefully they'll actually meet this ship date. If you can't wait that long, this month's issue of The Official Xbox Magazine has a playable demo of the game, which IGN has posted a preview based on.
Nintendo Interviews Cube.IGN has posted write-ups of interviews with Hiroshi Yamauchi, the former head of Nintendo and all-around curmudgeon and Satoru Iwata, the current head of the company. Iwata says that, "I do not believe releasing a higher performance machine is the solution" to the problems faced in the industry today, and Yamauchi provides his usual condemnation of flashy graphic and also says that a whole lot is riding on the Nintendo DS with this frightening little quote: "If we are unsuccessful with the Nintendo DS, we may not go bankrupt, but we will be crushed. "
Japanese Developers on DS Nintendo apparently has a lot riding on the success of the DS, so it's probably comforting to read these quotes from prominent Japanese developers, all of whom seem to be pretty enthusiastic about the concept of working with two screens. Among the people registering their praise are Yuji Naka of Sonic Team, Tetsuya Mizuguchi (the creator of Rez, who has since left Sega) and two representatives from Camelot, the developers of the Shining Force and Golden Sun series.
A new GoldenEye? According to Gamesindustry.biz, EA will announce at this year's E3 Expo a new game based on GoldenEye. That movie has particular meaning for gamers, as Rare already made a masterful adaptation of it way back on the N64. Sadly, although much of the original GoldenEye team is at Free Radical, which has a publishing deal with EA, they will not be working on this game.
LifeLine Demo It's really more of a technology showcase, but Konami has posted a PC demo for their upcoming PS2-only title LifeLine on the game's official site. This is the game that relies exclusively on voice recognition, so this demo shows how that works. To find it, launch the Flash site, and click on the "Warehouse". Or just head over to FileShack, where we've got it mirrored.
Boktai Sequel Confirmed IGN is reporting that this week's batch of Japanese magazines contain the first details about Tsuzuki: Bokura no Taiyo, the sequel to Bokura no Taiyo, which was released in this country as Boktai: the Sun is in Your Hands. The first game's title translated literally into "Our Sun", and this sequel's literal translation is "Continuation: Our Sun".
New Resident Evil 4 Details GameInformer apparently has an exclusive on this stuff here in the US, but since they're over in the UK, Computer and Video Games has gone live with a handful of details from the game. Apparently this game will have some pretty significant changes for the series, including an optional first person perspective, no traditional zombies (!), and at long last, Capcom's gotten rid of that damn opening door animation that's plagued the series since the beginning.
Onimusha 3 "Soul" Controller Coming to US Who says we never get crazy stuff over here? Japanese company Hori has announced plans to release their "Soul" controller for Onimusha 3 here in the US. This is the crazy controller that's shaped like a ceremonial sword, and a few new pictures of the thing are up at 1UP (which make it look a lot cheaper than those first photos).
New Halo Toys Revealed Bungie.net has posted photos and a brief write-up on the next batch of Halo toys, which are on display at the Toy Fair that got underway today here in NYC. Along with the new wave 3 figures are shots of the new Halo mini-toys and even some prototype sculptures of the planned Halo 2 line. As you would expect, the Halo 2 toys look just like the ones from the first game, only with higher-resolution textures (I kid, I kid).
Psi-Ops Interview Team Xbox has conducted an interview with Brian Eddy, the project lead on Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. In other Psi-Ops news, Xbox.IGN has a developer's diary from the animation lead on the game.
Misc. Interviews IGN has conducted an interview with Richard Keil, the actor who portrayed Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me and reprises the role in the upcoming 007: Everything or Nothing. And in other movie tie-in news, CVG has conducted an interview with Jeff Gamon, who's producing the upcoming game based on the Halle Berry Catwoman movie.
