Late Night Consoling

Well it looks like everyone hates the AIBO icon, so that won't be staying. I think I'll just go back to using the generic PlayStation icon for general Sony stuff, since that's still used for both PS2 and PSOne, and will presumably be used for the PSP and/or PS3 when those are unveiled. I guess we should consider a new PSOne logo for that platform, but that's not likely to come up very often so that's probably unnecessary. I liked the four buttons icon, but I know I was in the minority there, and lately every time I look at it I just see an oddly misshapen image of the Federation insignia from Star Trek. But I'm sure that's just me as I'm a power-geek who has that tattooed on his forehead (okay, not really). But anyway, for now we're set. Until the new platforms get announced, and we get to go through this all over again. Joy!
PS2 Amazing Onimusha 3 Controller Thanks Amankhan for pointing me towards this pre-order page at NCS for the "Soul Controller" an absolutely stunning item created by Hori to tie into the Japanese release of Onimusha 3. Whether or not it actually does anything is irrelevant (it doesn't look like it does, but then, that wacky twin gun controller for FFX-2 did work apparently) but whatever it does, it's a gorgeous replica of a ceremonial tachi sword. Also pretty cool is this Onimusha 3 memory card, which comes in a wooden ceremonial box. Of course these will set you back quite a bit: $195 for the sword, and $38 for the memory card. But jeez...they're so cool.
n-gage Eidos Giving Away 70,000 Copies of Tomb Raider Eidos announced today that this Sunday, during the Nokia Sugar Bowl (which is some kind of sporting event, right? I'm ignorant of these things...it sounds like a breakfast cereal to me) they will give away more than 70,000 copies of Tomb Raider for the N-Gage. I'm not saying I agree with this line of thought, but Simon over at Slashdot suggests this might be an attempt to dump those copies instead of simply dropping them in a landfill like Atari so notoriously did with E.T. No matter the reason, there's little doubt in my mind that virtually all of these copies will be dropped in the garbage on the way out, as even the most optimistic person couldn't expect more than 100 people in attendance to already own an N-Gage, and only a few dozen more than that will have considered actually buying one.
PS2 Xbox Pre-Order GTA: Sin City Hmm...maybe my april fool's gag from last year wasn't so far off the mark after all...Amazon UK has actually started taking pre-orders for a game they call Grand Theft Auto IV: Sin City. Take that with a lot of salt. I consider that to be about as good a source as my tea leaves, who by the way tell me that "Willie Nelson will stun his fans by swimming the English channel." Thanks 1UP for the tip.

Console Game of the Evening: Iron Soldier for the Atari Jaguar. "One of the best mech games of all time. Completely destructible buildings and terrain, full freedom to roam where you please. And also this was the original game with the missile cam. A classic." (submitted by Cirro).
