Late Night Consoling
When I haven't been indulging my growing Paperboy addiction, I've been playing Legacy of Kain: Defiance. There's a lot I like about this game, but the camera is absolutely breaking my heart. It seems like the developers wanted a more "cinematic" feel (yeah, I know) and the result is a frustrating mess of fixed camera angles and set movements. The one thing I absolutely detest about third person cameras is when the camera forces you to attack enemies you can't actually see. Resident Evil did it, Eternal Darkness did it, and sure enough, LoK: Defiance does it. Also annoying is when you find yourself looking around for a specific place only to find out that the camera prevented you from actually seeing where you were supposed to go. Throw in some blind jumping, where you can only hope to land on the next platform, and you've got some frustrating gameplay. I'm sticking with it, because I really, really like this franchise, and there's some great stuff for fans in here. But I just don't understand why they did this...the camera in Blood Omen 2 wasn't perfect, but it wasn't this bad...why did they have to fiddle with it?
