Late Night Consoling
So I finally finished up XIII earlier this evening. It wasn't a bad game, but it had a lot of problems, which I think I pretty much covered in my review of the game. Honestly though, that last boss was a nightmare. It must have taken me probably a good 2 1/2 - 3 hours of attempts before I finally beat the guy, and even then, I can't help but feel like it wasn't thanks to any particular strategy, but pure dumb luck. And that's not exactly satisfying. Oh, well. Now I can move on to better games. Tonight's update is very likely the last of the real news, so for tomorrow's Christmas Eve update, I'll try and scrape together some borderline news or something. If I can't get even that, I'll have to get creative, which might be a bit of fun in and of itself.
Dual Shock 3 to be Wireless? Computer and Video Games is reporting to have heard from a Sony Europe insider that the Dual Shock 3 controller (which will be standard with the PS3) will in fact be a wireless gamepad, and may also feature a single trigger under the right hand side of the pad (similar to the Z button on the GameCube controller). This wouldn't be terribly surprising, although personally I hope the DS3 doesn't require batteries to operate. A rechargeable battery with cradle (like Logitech's recent wireless mouse) would be perfect, although I imagine that would also tack a bit on to the price tag of the whole package.
Mega Man Collections Announced It was already revealed accidentally last week, but nonetheless, Capcom formally announced Mega Man Mania today, a GBA collection of the five Mega Man games for the original Game Boy. Also re-announced today was the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for GameCube and PS2, which will contain the first eight Mega Man games for NES and SNES, plus two arcade games that have never been released in this country before. Both will arrive here in the spring. On a related note, some new shots from Mega Man Anniversary Collection are up at GameSpot.
More from the Jump Festival IGN, who attended the Jump Festival in Japan over the weekend, has posted a hands-on look at Dragon Quest V, as well as a writeup of the Final Fantasy XII trailer that was shown. And while this isn't technically Jump-related, they also have a hands-on look at Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission. Over at The Magic Box, they link to actual movies of FFXII, FFVII: Advent Children and Dragon Quest V, however these bring new meaning to the words "shaky cam" as they employ some dutch angles that would make the German expressionists proud. Much easier to stomach are these stills from the FFXII movie.
New Releases This Week Shipping this week are Arx Fatalis for Xbox and Deer Hunter for PS2. And really, that's it. If it ain't out now, it's not going to be out before Christmas.
