Late Night Consoling

You might notice some new icons in tonight's update, as haiku's thrown together a few new images for me. There are still a couple more to come, but in tonight's update you'll notice new Nintendo, Sony and PS3 icons, which look pretty sharp. I'm still figuring out how I'm going to use them, so you might see them showing up in inappropriate places for a while before I get the hang of it, and I still haven't decided on my official order for them either. I'm big on consistency, which is why you may have noticed that the order of the icons is always the same (for anyone who cares, it's GC, PS2, Xbox, GBA, DC, PSX, NeoGeo, N64, N-Gage) and I'll absolutely figure out that in the next few days. One of the cool things haiku's done is create some classic icons, which gives me something to stick there on the side for those rare times when I have stories about classic games. Obviously I'll be using the Nintendo icon for NES, SNES and so on, but I've also got a cool beans Sega logo and an appropriately retro-colored Atari logo as well. And there are a couple more to come, so there are still some surprises in store for the near future. Oh, and you also might notice that we've finally upgraded our GBA icon to SP level. The original served us just fine, but the screen was kind of dark and the batteries kept dying on me at the worst possible time.
Nintendo Nintendo Sells Big Nintendo announced today that Black Friday went very well for them. On the GBA front, they sold nearly 600,000 units in America, while the GameCube, thanks largely to the recent price drop, vaulted ahead of the PS2 and Xbox. Keep in mind that's what they say, and we have to take their word on it until third party sales figures back them up.
Takes a lickin'... From the "holy crap!" pile comes this wild story of a man pushed to the limit by his roommates' gaming, who stormed into their living room pulled out a gun and fired...at their Xbox. The really wild part? The Xbox is just fine. Thanks Eurogamer for the tip.
Sony Nintendo Ys VI Coming Home? Could it be? After years of rehashes of the first two games in the series, Falcom has announced that they will be bringing Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim to an unnamed console or consoles. Of course, Ys Eternal was released for PS2 in Japan and has yet to come out over here, so there's no guarantee that this will make it over here...but it's a step in the right direction.
PS3 PS3 Image Faked Sure enough, the image last night linked here that was floating around the web, with some claiming it as the first concept image of the PlayStation 3, is fake. Actually, "fake" isn't quite fair, as it wasn't a hoax per se, but was the result of a misunderstanding. PS3 Insider tracked down the original author, and it turns out that it was made by a designer as a fun design exercise.
Sony FFVII Advent Children Trailer Soon According to GameSpot, the upcoming Final Fantasy X-2: International + Last Mission release in Japan will contain a trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and will feature new scenes that were not shown at the Tokyo Game Show. The FFX-2 release will be out in February in Japan, and if you missed the TGS trailer, we have a shaky-cam version up at FileShack.
Sony DDR Goes Uber-Platinum Gosh, that's a lot of copies...Konami announced today that they have sold a whopping 6.5 million Dance Dance Revolution games worldwide. The breakdown is 1 million here in the US, 1.5 million in Europe, and an incredible 4 million in Japan (which of course has a population that's a fraction of the size of the other two, so market penetration must be huge over there).
Dr1v3r 3 Ge+$ 4w350me vOic3 +@leN+ Atari announced today that DRIV3R, which is the 4W350mE NeW N4M3 pH0r driv3r 3, will feature some bi9 n4ME HoLlYWOoD -- er, sorry, big name Hollywood talent. Some of the actors involved are Ving Rhames, Michael Madsen and Michelle Rodriguez.
Ninja Gaiden Delayed Believe it or not, it's still not official, but everyone under the sun has declared that Ninja Gaiden has been pushed back to February of next year. If you're holding out for it, it's safe to assume it won't be coming out in just two weeks. You may now commence attacking Itagaki-san with your voodoo doll of choice.
Ace Combat 5 Hints Namco has provided very little information to date on Ace Combat 5, so every tiny bit counts as news I suppose...1UP is reporting that in the latest diary on the Japanese Project Aces homepage, developer Takeshi Ooi hints that the radio chatter in the game will be somewhat interactive. Like I said, there ain't much to go on.
