Late Night Consoling

0

I'm running a little late tonight, so I'll get straight to the news...I got back a bit later from seeing Kill Bill Vol. I than I had expected. Plus of course, there's lots of big news below. Let's get to it.

PS2 Did Someone Say PS2 Price Drop? Could it be? According to IGN, sources at mega-retailer Target have told them that they have received printed fliers listing the price of the PS2 for the low-low-price of just $99. Supposedly this price drop is going to hit the streets right smack in the middle of November, just in time for the all-important holiday shopping season. Still, take this with a ton of salt, given the fact that if anything, the price would be dropped to $149, and not all the way down to the GameCube's price of $99.
Xbox KOTOR 2 not from BioWare? And what the heck is Rebel X? Here's a whopper of a rumor care of IGN...although their logic is questionable, Xbox.IGN is reporting that they believe (note that they believe, as they have no proof of this) that BioWare will be handing off development of the sequel to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to Obsidian Entertainment, the company founded by Feargus Urquhart and other veteran developers. Also of note is IGN's rumor that an Xbox project known internally as Rebel X is underway at LucasArts, and contains ports of Rogue Squadron, Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike, which were previously N64 and GameCube exclusives respectively. Supposedly these are being prepped to be released alongside a DVD release of the original Star Wars films in 2004.
PS2 PSOne More IGN Rumor Mongering IGN's seriously been hanging out at that rumor mill, because they've got yet another notable rumor article up, this time over at PS2.IGN, where you can find a new edition of their Off the Record column. In tonight's report, is word that SquareSoft's Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children might be released as a movie that only plays on either the PS2 or even Sony's upcoming PSP handheld, that a sequel to The Mark of Kri is in development and most importantly for many of you, that SCEA is already working on a localization for the sequel to ICO, which everyone knows about at this point, but has yet to be formally announced.
Xbox Sega Snubbing Xbox? The Magic Box has posted a brief write up lifted from the current issue of the Japanese magazine Dorimaga that says despite the fact that the Chihiro arcade system is based on Xbox hardware, Sega currently has no plans to release either OutRun 2 or Virtua Cop 3 for the home platform. This decision is said to be because Sega would have to release a light gun peripheral for the Xbox, although considering that they released House of the Dead 3 with no reservations, you have to question that logic.
GameCube Star Wars Arcade in Rebel Strike Good news for those who aren't planning on pre-ordering Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike...apparently the game will include the full versions of both the originalStar Wars and Empire Strikes Back arcade games as unlockable extras. Star Wars was previously available on GameCube as a pre-order extra.
Xbox Crimson Skies Gold Microsoft has announced that Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge has gone gold. The game will be available across North America at the end of the month.
Xbox Sam & Max Hit the Road on Xbox? Apparently GameStop is now advertising the PC classic Sam & Max Hit the Road as a pre-order bonus with both the PC and Xbox versions of the upcoming title Armed & Dangerous. What's unclear, as 1UP points out, is whether or not this great, great game has been ported to the Xbox, or if it's just the same PC-only disc being sent out with both versions.
GameCube GameCube Reinstated by Argos in UK Some good news for Nintendo over in the UK...retailer Argos, which made a stink earlier in the year when they decided to stop selling the GameCube due to slumping sales, has re-introduced the system at its new price of £79.99. As an extra bonus, they're also throwing in a free controller and a £10 gift voucher.
PS2 Wild Arms Alter Code: F Details New details from Wild Arms Alter Code: F are up at GameSpot tonight. Alter Code: F is the name of the PS2 remake of the original PSOne Wild Arms, and this game allows you to have more than three people in your party among other changes.
PS2 RetroCON Shipping MadCatz sends word that they are now shipping their RetroCON controller for the PS2, the gamepad that sort of resembles a combination of the DualShock and original NES gamepads. This is for those of you long for the days before designers knew about things like ergonomics.
PS2 No Motorcycles in GT4 I can't say I actually heard this rumor, but apparently it's been circulating, because Computer and Video Games has confirmed that contrary to some reports somewhere, there won't be any motorcycles in Gran Turismo 4. Okay then.
GameCube GameBoy Advance Nintendo Interview GameInformer.com (which hasn't really done much to hide the fact that their editor comes from the Nintendo fan community) has conducted an interview with Bill Trinen, the associate localization producer at Nintendo, talking about the exciting world of game translation.
