It seems like I spent more time mailing games to other people this weekend than actually playing any (explanation here), but nonetheless I did get in some time with Final Fantasy I. I must say...some of those dungeons in the game are absolutely brutal. While I'm no fan of random monster attacks (I feel the whole idea is a bit dated, to be honest) they seem extra-specially annoying in this game. And I've found the game has a remarkable sense of knowing when to throw really hard monsters at me (like when I'm down to only a miniscule amount of health and mere steps away from a town or exit). Still, it makes up for it with surprisingly softball boss fights, or at least it has so far (and I'm a little more than halfway through the game) so I'm going to tough it out.

I played FF VII on the PC, and althought the shitty console type interfaced sucked (no mouse support) I still had fun playing it. I still don't get the whole Chocobo thing...I think all the racing and side activity with these stupid birds is a waste of time.

Well, in terms of doing the most damage, the stuff in FFX (with damage breaks) is obviously the most deadly in terms of numerical damage. Mindy's Passado attack is, as far as I know, the most deadly attack in the game, especially if you make even a half-hearted attempt at statmaxing.
But KotR, much like FFVII in general, is memorable just because it showcased what the Playstation was capable of. It attacked every enemy 13 times for 9999 damage (when your character was really powerful, that is). Compare to Mindy's Passado, which can do something like 20 attacks on a single enemy at 99,999 damage apiece. Of course, the damage scales are different for each game.
The thing about KotR is that you have to go through a lot more crap to get it, and the animation is unskippable. Unlike FFX, there aren't abbreviated animations for the summons, so you have to sit through the whole 2-minute or so presentation every time you summoned those guys.-
Those last two sentences sound pretty negative, though I actually think it's a pretty cool summon, even if the Bahamuts in FFVII are a bit more memorably to me. I actually am replaying through FFVII as we speak, since I just got a new copy last week. Up to Shinra HQ. It's a good game, though I admit I like FFVIII and FFX better.
You can probably find a movie of the KotR animation if you look for it on Kazaa or another p2p application. Got to see it just once, if only for the history. -

Most of the harder bosses in the Monster Arena are a bit too much even for Passado to handle. Generally the strategy is to haste or auto-haste everyone and Quick Hit until the cows come home. If you can do 99,999 damage with every hit (and getting everyone up to 255 strength isn't as hard as it sounds), most of the bosses are pretty easy.
Of course, if you have the European or Japanese International versions, you get to take on the Dark Aeons and the super-ultra-hardest boss of any FF game to date, Penance. Dude has 12,000,000 HP and, unless your characters have 255 Defense, a Protect spell, Def+20% armor, and five Cheers cast, every physical hit he does will do over 10,000 damage to you.
