Blizzard's latest Insider issue has been posted online offering, among other things, a World of Warcraft related mailbag which is more a brief FAQ. Questions are about playable races, new features being added after launch, and Europeans participating in the beta of the game. Thanks The Unofficial World of Warcraft Site.

It's really too bad MMORPGS can't get away from using turn based combat. That has to be my number 1 turnoff. Even watching the WOW movies and seeing the "swing, pause, hit animation, swing, miss, swing, pause enemy falls over" just makes my gamer-heart sink =(

Neocron uses realtime combat... Dunno if you wanna classify Planetside as a MMORPG, but if you do, that one does as well.

Turn based combat is used so that there is at least some resemblence to a role playing game. Additionally, not timer based attacks would give those with the lowest pings an advantage.

MMOs are all about catering to the largest possible audience.

See the game jumpgate. MM space game that relies on skill and realtime fighting in space. A person with the standard scout ship can kill an unskilled person in the heaviest class ship which is damn good.
