Late Night Consoling
Tonight's LNC is going to be another abbreviated one due to lack of news, but the upside is that this leaves me with more time to work on my still ongoing E3 impressions articles. Look for another one sometime tonight.
Fear Effect: Inferno (Still) on Hold I had a brief conversation with a representative from Eidos at E3 about the status of the Fear Effect franchise, and was told that Fear Effect: Inferno, which was shown in teaser form at last year's show, is still very much on hold, and no progress is expected in the near future. I had really been hoping that this game was going to see the light of day within the next year, but sadly, that doesn't seem to be in the cards.
Nintendo's Big Sales Drop? Bloomberg Japan is reporting that when Nintendo reveals their second half earnings report later this week, it may fall as much as 1/3rd due to a drop GameCube sales (thanks Porkasaurus). We'll know for sure how much of this is true when Nintendo lays it all out on the table for their investors on Thursday.
Sega's E3 Trailers Watch Impress has posted Sega's trailers from E3 (thanks -mu-). These are the trailers from Altered Beast, Kunoichi and Sega GT Online that were shown on the show floor last week.
10 Million PSP Figure Unofficial As was sort of expected, a Sony representative today downplayed the 10 million PSP units in 2004 figure mentioned here last night. Which is certainly good, since that figure was a bit too ambitious for any new system, let alone a handheld one.
Sega's Back in Black Everyone cheer for Sega, as they've actually posted a profit for this past fiscal year -- their first in five years. They're not out of the woods yet, of course. Layoffs and restructuring lie ahead for the company, and they still may merge with another company (*cough*Namco*cough). But it's still quite an accomplishment, given how much cash they were hemoraging for a while there.
Infinium's New Console At a press event at E3, Infinium Labs, the people who attempted to create an open source console system with their failed Indreema, announced their next project: a new diskless system known as Phantom. This would-be Xbox/PS2/GameCube competitor will get all its games from the Internet, and will ship with a gamepad, keyboard and mouse, and is built out of standard PC components, and is said to "look similar to current Dell cases."
Capcom Fighting News Snk-Capcom.com tracked down some Capcom reps at E3, and have posted an article with all kinds of tidbits. Some of the topics covered include the reason why there was no Xbox Live support in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (the license didn't cover it), the status of Capcom Fighting All-Stars (it's canned), and whether or not we'll ever see DC vs. Marvel vs. Capcom ("we're looking into it."). Thanks Slashdot for the tip.
Gran Turismo 4 Interview Computer and Video Games has posted an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi, the head of the development team on Gran Turismo 4 at Polyphony Digital. Yamauchi talks about the reasons why you probably won't see visual damage in GT4 or any other game from them for the foreseeable future (and surprisingly, it's not just because of licensing issues).
Viewtiful Joe Bumped (Slightly) Capcom Japan has announced that Viewtiful Joe has been pushed back from June 12th to June 26th, as portions of the game "were deemed unsatisfactory." The September North American release date should be unaffected by this.
Nintendo's Demo Disc Out According to GameSpot, Nintendo's GameCube playable demo disc, which contains demos of Billy Hatcher & The Giant Egg, Soul Calibur II and others (including some GBA titles) has shipped to retailers and can be purchased for $10.
Bulletproof Monk Revealed Also at GameSpot tonight are the first details and screenshots from Empire Interactive's Bulletproof Monk, which is based on the Chow Yun-Fat movie of the same name (which was in turn based on a similarly titled comic book).
MGS3 Tidbits CvG cornered Hideo Kojima at E3, and they have posted some tidbits about Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater that they managed to squeeze out of him. One interesting thing here is that he says if you're a vegetarian, you'll be able to sneak into enemy camps and steal rations instead of killing snakes and other wildlife to survive.
Metal Gear Sites Speaking of Metal Gear Solid, Konami has launched their official sites for The Twin Snakes and MGS3. |
