EVE Online Gone Gold

22

Simon & Schuster Interactive let us know that CCP's space MMORPG EVE Online has gone gold (some screenshots can be found here). The game will ship to U.S. and European stores next month. People who beta tested the game are now free to talk about it as well. To celebrate the going gold news, there will be an IRC chat tonight at 4PM CST in #eve-online on the stratics.frws.com server. Producer Mike Wallis is attending.

    Uh... WHAT?

There are still way to many bugs as of last night.... unless they fixed them and didn't tell the beta testers?!?

Usually thats the case with MMORPG, make sure you build hype and can handle loads of people, patch later.

Yeah but these are not just bugs, these are exceptions that pop up a zillion windows, and it happens all the time...

They probably just turned off the exception reporting.

I'm with DrZettl. It's not *just* the exception windows... it's what the bugs do. Last night I couldn't leave the spaceport I was docked at because the game told me, out of the blue, that I lacked the skill to fly the ship I'd been flying for several days now. Attemtping to leave the port crashed me to desktop. Excellent.

Don't forget there's a built in patcher (as there is in all/most MMORPG's)
So basically, in the time that the game goes to manufacturing, the manual/boxes are printed and the game gets shipped, they'll probably cook up another 3 or 4 patches.

I haven't played the EVE beta since a lot of patches back, it was good, but needed a lot of work. Just deleted the BETA off my drive.

As much as I tried to love this game, it wasn't for me. For all it's neatness and cool features, it's still just a MMORPG.
