Sony today revealed more about their "Cell" processor technology, and revealed its plans to build a new $1.6 billion plant in Japan to manufacture the thing. Don't sell your PS2 yet, as places have said the PS3, which will be powered by this Cell tech, will be seen at the earliest in 2005, with a 2006 release more than likely. But wait! Something that seems to have occurred under the radar of most news outlets, is this story at Electronics DesignChain (pointed out by The Register) that talks about the development of Sony's new processor architecture. What's unique about this article however, is this curious statement: "Although Sony refuses to talk about its future plans for the chip, it does admit that the Cell chip will not be the CPU in the Playstation 3, reportedly slated for release in 2005." Say wha...? If true, this would mean that Sony has another, incremental technology in development, which given the amount of press about the Cell processor, seems unlikely. But certainly not out of the question. Hopefully this will be cleared up in the not-too-distant future, although this isn't the kind of thing we'll be able to easily clear up at E3. One thing that is certain, is that Sony has merged the PS2's architecture into a single chip, which could easily pave the way for a nice price drop. And unlike the PS3 speculation, this could actually be confirmed at E3.

GameCube PS2 Xbox GameBoy Advance Microsoft Buying Stake in Sega? Does everyone want a piece of Sega, or what? According to Bloomberg News, Microsoft is seeking to buy a stake in Sega. This comes as the company is already being torn between Sammy and Namco, each of which has the Urge to Merge.
PS2 No GTA This Year? In the latest edition of their Off the Record column, IGN is reporting that the next Grand Theft Auto game will not ship this year, as Rockstar wants to spend two years working on their next installment in the series. Given that there hasn't been so much as a peep from Rockstar about their next game (not even a whisper, which we had this time last year regarding Vice City) this is very likely. But still not official, so don't give up hope just yet.
GameCube PS2 Xbox X-Men: Legends Announced Activision today finally formally announced X-Men: Legends, the console-only RPG in development at Raven Software for all three platforms. As part of the announcement it was revealed that you'll be able to create your team of X-Men from 15 characters, including Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Nightcrawler. You'll also be able to play co-op with up to four people. Sweeeet.
PS2 Xbox SSX3 Revealed Apparently on the PS2 and Xbox NBA Street Vol. 2 game disc lies a trailer for SSX 3, which says the game will be released in the fall. Details, screenshots and the trailer itself are up at GameSpot.
PS2 Deus Ex PS2 Exclusive? According to the British official PS2 magazine (relayed here by IGN), ION Storm is working on an exclusive PS2 Deus Ex game. I imagine we'll find out for sure at E3 next month.
Xbox Steel Battalion Online Canned? An unconfirmed rumor (read: unconfirmed rumor) on The Magic Box says that one of the 18 titles canceled by Capcom was their planned online Tekki/Steel Battalion title. If true, this would really suck for those who spent $200 on the controller, only to get a short, single player experience out of the game.
Xbox Dungeons & Dragons Heroes Trailer Microsoft's official Xbox site has posted a new trailer from Dungeons & Dragons Heroes (thanks GameSpy Daily). Like all their trailers, this is in Windows Media format, and cannot be played back on anything but a Windows machine (so don't blame me if it's old or lame...I tried).
GameCube PS2 Xbox The Suffering Preview IGN has posted a new preview of The Suffering, the survival-horror title recently announced by Midway that features creatures designed by Stan Winston Studios.
PS2 Savage Preview A new preview of Savage: The Battle for Newerth is up at GameSpot tonight, looking at this combination FPS and RTS title from S2 Games. Good lord, I could have sworn that said "The Battle for Newark" which I guess would have been pretty funny (my wife says, "let them have it!").
Console Game of the Evening: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for the PSOne. "Just one of the games in the excellent Legacy of Kain series, Soul Reaver was an amazing 3rd person action/puzzle game and still holds up well today." (submitted by archon).
