Late Night Consoling

49

Yep, it's a rare Thursday night edition of LNC. Actually, this is something I'm going to try to do more of, since Thursday nights are left dry and barren without me (*cough*) and I'm way behind on my LNC EX editorials (don't worry, there are some in the hopper -- I've just been preoccupied with my impending move). So enjoy tonight's update, and hopefully the one next Thursday as well!

GameCube Hidden Wind Waker Levels Found! Here's a pleasant surprise...using an Action Replay for GameCube, some enterprising hackers have uncovered test levels from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (thanks AtaRi.). Here's info and screenshots, and you've got an Action Replay, here are the instructions for finding them.
GameCube PS2 Xbox GameBoy Advance Sega, Namco Official? Or...? Hoo boy, those Sega/Namco rumors have gotten better...Sega has admitted that they received an offer, but that nothing has been finalized. Then there's Sammy, which says it's moving forward with their already announced merger with Sega. But wait! It gets better...Namco updated their official site (translation care of BabelFish) with a confirmation that things have been agreed upon! What's the real story? We'll have to wait to find out.
PS2 Final Fantasy X-2 Preview Those lucky kids at GameSpot have been putting their import copy of Final Fantasy X-2 through its paces, and they have posted an updated preview tonight. While not too in-depth this time around (it is like their fourth since the game shipped overseas), this focuses on pure gameplay, and includes some tidbits you may not have read about anywhere else.
Xbox Limited Dino-Xbox for Japan A special, limited-edition Dino Crisis 3 Xbox bundle has been announced in Japan. Unlike the recent Panzer Dragoon Orta bundle, this is the same core Xbox hardware (which is good, because that PDO one was kinda icky) but the bundle includes the game, the system and the DVD controller, all in a special Dino-print box.
PS2 Xbox The Lost Not Just last night someone was asking about this...well, apparently Irrational Games' The Lost hasn't been canceled, it's just been sorta quiet lately, as one of the developers confirmed on their official forums. Thanks GameSpy for the tip.
GameCube PS2 Xbox Roadkill Announced Today Midway has announced another new title that will be showcased at E3: Roadkill, a vehicular combat game for all three major platforms. Not a whole lot is known at this point about the game, but the in-game radio will offer information about the various missions as well as "a variety of different types of music" although the Xbox port will allow users to play their own soundtracks.
GameCube Nintendo Beefs up Development Studio Nintendo announced today that they have increased the size of their internal development studios, and created a brand new facility to house them. The plan is to create more games to bolster their GameCube lineup. Sounds good to me.
GameCube GameCube/GBA Player Bundle? In a conversation with Computer and Video Games, Nintendo of America's George Harrison mentioned that they are "seriously considering" a GameCube/GBA Player bundle. He also said that their E3 area will emphasize third party developers, and also that Shigeru Miyamoto has taken the criticism about Mario Sunshine's difficulty very seriously, and their future titles will be less challenging.
Xbox New PSO Xbox Quest Sonic Team's official Xbox Phantasy Star Online page (translation care of Babel Fish) has been updated with word that a new "Ice Spinner" quest has been posted for Japanese PSO subscribers. If the same pattern follows here as it did with the GameCube version, expect this to be available for North American subscribers soon.
GameCube PS2 Xbox No Turok for 2004? Acclaim has released their list of titles that will be shown at E3, and while their Alias game and the next Xtreme-G will be there, one thing that is nowhere to be found on their list is a new Turok game. Given the lukewarm reaction to their last one, this may be a good thing.
GameCube PS2 Xbox Misc. Media New shots from Silent Hill 3 are up at IGN tonight, along with a look at the very odd GameCube title Chibi Robo, and new stuff from Brute Force. Also, GameSpy has posted links to teaser videos for Midway's just-announced horror title The Suffering.
Console Game of the Evening: Metal Slug for the Neo Geo. "One of the awesome sidescrollers of our time. Great gameplay. Great Graphics for its time. Great animations. Two player co-op and just plain fun!" (submitted by Jackass1233).

That wind waker cheat is akin to the old goldeneye stuff you could unlock with the gameshark... it was really cool I guess, but not really worth the money you might spend on the thing ;'P
