Late Night Consoling
Yep, we're squarely in the pre-E3 doldrums here at LNC. I apologize in advance if the news is a little light here over the next week or two, as more publishers will be announcing games, but not showing much until the actual convention itself. I will of course be attending, as I do every year, and I'll do my best to post my impressions of everything I get a chance to see (which last year was quite a large list). This year's going to be an odd one, as I really don't have a whole lot on my "must-see" list yet. One thing I'm looking forward to trying is Nokia's N-Gage, if only because I'm dying to know how good it handles real (or somewhat real) 3D graphics. As we get closer, I'll ask you guys for suggestions for games to make sure are on my list, so I don't leave anything out.
2000 Cars in Gran Turismo 4? Rumors circulating the web today suggest that Gran Turismo 4 will be revealed at E3 this year, and will feature 2000 cars, 100 tracks, and full online support, including support for voice chat using a compatible headset. As you would expect, this is very much a rumor, so don't take it too seriously...yet.
Billy Hatcher Revealed Following up on last night's announcement about Billy Hatcher and The Giant Egg, Games Are Fun has posted scans of the first images from the game.
New Genesis Remakes at E3 According to a report on Gamers.com, PlayStation 2 updates of Vectorman and Altered Beast are in development and will be revealed at E3 next month.
Earthbound Once More Also on Gamers.com is a confirmation that Mother 3, also known as the eternally-in-development Earthbound 64, is in development for GBA, along with the first two games in the series. Regarding those ports, Nintendo has opened their official site for the games, and along with it posted the first batch of screenshots.
Jak 2 Video Interview GameSpot has posted a video interview with Mark Cerny of Naughty Dog, talking about Jak 2, the tentatively titled sequel to Jak & Daxter. Unlike most of GameSpot's video interviews, this one is available for all to see.
Pokemon Box Revealed Cube.IGN has posted the first details and screenshots from Pokemon Box, the first Pokemon product for GameCube. This isn't really a game, but more of a companion for the GBA Pokemon titles, and its price reflects this. When it's released in Japan, it will be available with a Memory Card 59 for the Yen-equivalent of $17, or with the GBA connector cable for $24. Not a bad bargain, but hardly any step forward for this franchise.
Phantasy Star Online Trailer Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II shipped to retailers across North America today, and to celebrate, Xbox.IGN has posted the final Xbox trailer from the game. This makes for a good watch if you're a Dreamcast (or GameCube, for that matter) owner considering picking this up and want to weigh the differences.
The Suffering Announced Midway has announced The Suffering, an upcoming survival horror title for all three platforms that will be shown at E3 next month. This game will attempt to set itself apart from the others in the genre thanks to creatures designed by Stan Winston, the famed creature designer on movies like Aliens and Jurassic Park. More on this game can be found at Midway's official site, and GameSpy points out that the developer is none other than Drakan creators Surreal Software.
Square Sells a lot of FFX-2 No surprises here really...Square Enix (no, I will not call it "squenix"!) has announced that they've sold a crapload of copies of Final Fantasy X-2 in its first five weeks of release. That'd be over two million, for those keeping track of such things. Three million would be an "assload" and four, well...I can't say that in polite company.
Lost Kingdoms II Preview A new preview of Lost Kingdoms II is up at IGN tonight, looking at this RPG from Activision and From Software, the company best known for their Kings Field series of games.
The Clone Wars Gold LucasArts has posted word on their official site that Star Wars: The Clone Wars for Xbox has gone gold and will be in stores next week (thanks GameSpy). This enhanced port adds Xbox Live support among other features. |
