Late Night Consoling

So SquareEnix's (good lord, I'm going to have to get used to that) Final Fantasy Origins arrived in stores today. At under $30 it's extremely tempting, but between Xenosaga (still going!) and .hack I'm going to be set with RPGs for a while (not to mention the Phantasy Star Collection). But this is still a great package, and I'm eagerly looking forward to reading people's ShackReviews of the game when it's added to the database (hint, hint). And at that price, it's a lot more tempting than the full price they were asking for Final Fantasy Chronicles, even if that package did include the non-FF-but-no-less-amazing Chrono Trigger. I still haven't picked that up, but then, I also never played through FFV from the Final Fantasy Anthology package, so clearly there are a lot of holes in my FF experience. But it's nice to see every game in the series available in these souped-up editions. Now if they would just port FFVI to GBA I could be completely satisfied...

Xbox DDR for Xbox? While Konami hasn't announced anything, the web is abuzz with what appears to be a solid confirmation of Dance Dance Revolution for Xbox. This bit of news comes from EB Games, of all places, and while that's never been even a remotely reliable source in the past, this time they have a box shot and specs to back them up, not just some random release date. If this is true, it sounds awesome for DDR fans, as it includes support for downloadable content over Xbox Live (head-to-head multiplayer isn't mentioned) and new and exclusive game modes. The game is said to be out in October, and there's no mention of the dance pad that will be necessary to play, but it's a safe bet one's on the way. On a similar note, GameSpy points out that EB also lists Silent Scope Complete and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Xbox, although the latter of the two has already been announced.

GameCube PS2 Xbox Mod Chipper Sentenced Following up on a story I mentioned a while back, the owner of Isonews.com, who was found guilty of importing and selling the Enigmah Xbox mod chips, has been sentenced to five months in prison and a $28,500 fine, or as The Register points out, "five months in prison, five months of home detention, three years of probation and a $28,500 fine."
GameCube GameCube 2 (*snicker*) before Xbox 2 or PS3? Okay, I'm having a hard time typing this because of all the salt I'm sucking down from this...but nonetheless, Computer and Video Games is reporting that a Japanese business paper claims Nintendo will be releasing their next console system before either Sony or Microsoft. Don't hold your breath, kids. No, seriously. It's dangerous. Nothing good will come of it.
PS2 Kya: Dark Lineage Announced GameSpot has posted a first look at Kya: Dark Lineage, an upcoming action game for PS2 from Eden Studios, the developers of V-Rally.

I voted for longer more challenging adventures. Multiplayer seems like a bad idea for Metroid to me.

No way, instant hit weapons and auto-targetting make for a rivetting experience. ;D

ha I got mad when I saw that the most votes went to multiplayer...

the whole point of metroid is the atmosphere and mood of being stuck alone in a desolate sci-fi environment...multiplayer just doesn't work and I hope Nintendo realizes that

well I'd like to see what Retro can pull off multiplayer wise (they have Zoid on board, for chrissakes), plus wouldn't it be cool to play as one of your fave Metroid characters? OK, maybe not as compelling a reason as Goldeneye but it doesn't have to be deathmatch - co-op is cool as well.

Good point. Wish I could change my vote to side-scrolling.

you could always not play the multiplayer part of the game though, and not ruin it for the people who do want it. Not saying I want it but I mean if you dont like that seperate part of the game then just play the part you do like and your expierance should be un-tainted

That got my vote as well. Agreed on the multiplayer being a bad idea.
