Late Night Consoling
I continue to slog my way through Xenosaga...my enthusiasm for the game seems to have dissipated some time ago, and I find my major motivation for continuing not the solid gameplay, or the complex storyline, but simply the knowledge that if I stop now, I won't be able to pick up the second one when it comes out. I am very disappointed by this game. It's not bad by any means, but the storyline and characters just aren't very interesting, and that's really taking the fun out of the experience for me. I can only hope the next game in the series is better, and for that reason, and that reason alone, I'm going to stick with it...but these cut scenes just get harder and harder to sit through.
GameCube Splinter Cell Bumped Up In a surprising turn of events, Ubi Soft has announced that the GameCube port of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has been bumped up by over a month, and will now hit shelves on April 8th, alongside the PS2 version. Along with the screenshots that accompany the announcement, IGN has posted what they call an "amazing" movie from the GameCube version of the game.
Arc the Lad US Bound...in May While SCEA hasn't actually announced the game's North American release yet, IGN reports being sent a playable build of a localized version of the game, with an attached release date of May 27th.
Onimusha 3 Interview Computer and Video Games has conducted an interview with Keiji Inafune, the producer on Capcom's upcoming Onimusha 3. The questions cover the various changes this game marks for the series, including the move to full 3D, and the decision to enlist European actor Jean Reno for one of the main characters.
StarCraft: Ghost Officially Multiplatform This was sort of assumed, but Blizzard confirmed today in their latest Mail Bag that StarCraft: Ghost will indeed be released for all three major systems.
3DO: Still a Survivor The company that refuses to die has announced some positive financial news...thanks to the success of High Heat Major League Baseball 2004 and a $10 million asset loan from IIG Capital, they are well on the road to break-even. Considering that this company has been written off entirely more times than Apple (well okay, not that many times) this is pretty remarkable, and it shows that when you stop making absolute crap, you can actually save your company (Midway? Acclaim? Are you listening?).
Zelda Uber-Pack for Europe According to IGN, Nintendo will be releasing a special GameCube Zelda bundle for the European release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. In addition to the game, you'll get the Master Quest/Ocarina of Time bonus disc, and a platinum GameCube. No price has been announced, but it's likely it will cost the same as the existing Super Mario Sunshine and Metroid bundles.
State of Emergency Ships Rockstar announced today that they have shipped State of Emergency for Xbox. The port contains new multiplayer modes, and retails for a mere $19.99.
Ys Eternal Delayed No reason has been given, but apparently the Japanese release of Ys Eternal Story, the remake-of-a-remake-of-a-remake of the first two Ys games, has been delayed.
HomeLAN's Console Q&As I seem to have missed a trio of console-related Q&As at HomeLAN...specifically there's a Q&A with Will Kerslake of Lightspeed Games, who talks about their unnamed PS2 action game, a Q&A with some of the developers of Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction, and a chat with Tuomas Pirinen of Climax, who talks about their upcoming Xbox RPG Sudeki.
Misc. Media GameSpot has posted new shots from F-Zero for GameCube, while IGN has a pair of shots from Silent Hill 3 for PS2, and some new shots from Hunter: The Reckoning Redeemer for Xbox in their brief preview of the game. Computer and Video Games has new shots from Soul Calibur II, as well as shots from The Hulk for GBA. |
