Late Night Consoling
| Square Merger in Jeopardy? One of the biggest shareholders in SquareSoft isn't pleased with the current merger plans, as it currently calls for one Enix share to be exchanged for 0.81 of his many shares in SquareSoft. If this doesn't change, he's threatening to cast a negative vote on the whole deal. I wouldn't take this to mean it's not going to happen, but it's not as certain as it once was. |
Square (Finally) Announces Final Fantasy Origins
Still More Square News The Square-news keeps rolling tonight, as PS2.IGN has an updated preview of Final Fantasy X-2, GameSpot has some new shots from that game, as well as new shots from Seiken Densetsu for GBA.

DOA: XB Gets an M While the game doesn't actually feature any nudity, or violence, or harsh language, the almighty ESRB has seen fit to dub Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball with an "M" rating. While I certainly can understand the decision, it pretty much proves that this is not a game for the serious sports fan, it's just, well...bouncy bouncy.
GameCube Sales, Q&A As noted in this story at Cube.IGN, the GameCube has seen a huge swelling in its Japanese sales figures, due largely to the release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Also at Cube.IGN is a brief Q&A with Satoru Iwata, translated from a Japanese publication. While there's nothing too exciting in here, the interviewer asks about their post-Gamecube plans, to which he responds, "We are focusing on devising new ways to play games, rather than pursuing new functions."
More Pokemon GC Details While specific facts on the upcoming GameCube Pokemon game are hard to come by, Cube.IGN has posted a confirmation that the game really will require you to own a GBA, link cable and one of the GBA Pokemon games. To offset that somewhat, the game will retail for around $40.
GBA SP, GameCube Player Movies If you want a good look at both the GameCube GBA Player and the Game Boy Advance SP, check out IGN, where they have movies in Quicktime format showing off each, taken at CES. Here are links to the GBA SP and GBA Player respectively.
Xboy in Three Years? Apparently Bill Gates said in a conversation with Reuters that it will take Microsoft three years to develop a portable Xbox. It doesn't sound like this is an actual confirmation of the project, but it's interesting to hear they're still kicking around the idea (any competition for Nintendo in this area is good, as far as I'm concerned).
More Sonic on GBA, GameCube Sega has confirmed two new Sonic games for Nintendo hardware...Sonic Pinball Party is a new handheld pinball game for GBA, while Sonic Adventure DX, is a GameCube port of the first Sonic Adventure. Both will be out in Japan this summer.
Devil May Stylin' Capcom has announced some kind of wacky promotion tying Devil May Cry 2 with Diesel, the ultrahip clothing company.
New F-Zero Shots A trio of new shots (albeit small ones) from the upcoming GameCube/Arcade F-Zero game are up at GameSpot tonight. |
Console Game of the Evening: F-Zero 64 for the Nintendo 64. While it wasn't as groundbreaking as the SNES game, this was still a lot of fun.
