Turbine's Middle Earth
According to the latest issue of Computers Games Magazine, Vivendi's upcoming Lord of the Rings MMORPG is being developed by the people at Turbine (Asheron's Call and sequel). Some more details are up at Warcry's Crossroads of Dereth. Thanks Blues News.

Hmmm, well AC2 was a big pile of poop, too dumbed down for a lot of hardcore AC1 fans being the biggest complaint. I hope they do something different with LOTR and not just carbon copy AC2, since I'm sure they'll be using the AC2 engine.

Yeah it does suck how they took everything AC and pretty much tossed it out the door and mixed EQ + Daoc together with a some things of their own to create AC2. They probably did it because the fact is that Daoc and EQ are way more popular that AC ever was, so obviously you adopt their gameplay so you sell as well as they did.

I disagree - I think AC2 is actually a very enjoyable game (and so do many others). Now, will it appeal to everyone? No, of course not. I've played EQ, DAOC, UO, AO, AC1, and a few others over the last few years, and they all have various strengths and weaknesses.
AC2 is simplified in some areas to make it more enjoyable for a certain a type of player. It also has some things that the others don't (e.g., monthly events), and if this approach doesn't appeal to you, then play one of the others.
Is it absolutely necessary for all games to adhere to the same formula? Isn't there room for variety? I, for one, play many different types of games, and I refuse to call a game a failure simply because it doesn't follow the same old rules that other games do. I enjoy it, and that's enough for me. -

I don't like AC2.
This is made by Turbine.
Turbine would not want to make a game like AC2, as it would not utilize a large enough portion of the market share to be viable.
So, they will make a game with different play mechanics than AC2 but likely the same beautiful (though better) engine.
Therefore, a possibility that I will like MEO (Middle Earth Online) exists. -
