Dragon Quest/Warrior VIII Confirmed It's official: Dragon Quest/Warrior VIII is in development for the PS2, and PS2 alone, and it is indeed a cel-shaded title. What is a bit surprising, is that the game is not being developed by the same team as DQ VII, but is instead being made by the fine folk at Level 5, best known around here for their work on Dark Cloud and the upcoming True Fantasy Live Online for Xbox. If you're not already familiar with them, PS2.IGN has some background info on the three big names who work on every DQ game, including this latest one.
Legend of Zelda Named Nintendo has announced that the English title for the upcoming GameCube Legend of Zelda will be...(drumroll please)...The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. And that's not a typo, it's The Wind Waker, not The Wind Walker, which would be a slightly less silly title. But hey, I guess it's better than "Winds of Tact."

| Virtua Fighter Going Multiplatform? While rumors have been floating around ever since Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution showed up in Arcades that the game was going to be released for multiple consoles, one Japanese publication has said that the game "could" be in development for multiple consoles, along with a confirmation that Sega is considering going multiplatform with several of their bigger franchises. Don't pop that champagne yet, but hey, it's a start. |
Panzer Dragoon Updates The official Japanese Panzer Dragoon Orta site was given an overhaul over the weekend, and has all kinds of new stuff (although the text is all in Japanese). Sega of America has posted their mini-site for the game, although it doesn't have a whole lot of note. Thanks PlanetXbox for the tip.
Tales of Destiny 2 Preview PS2.IGN has posted a new preview with their hands-on impressions of Tales of Destiny 2, Namco's upcoming RPG which is already available in Japan. Kinda like Xenosaga, especially in that we have no firm release plans yet (grr).
More Kirby! He's pink and fluffy, and his latest title is now available in North America, and apparently there's lots more Kirby on the way, as developer HAL Laboratories has confirmed that two more games are in development. What platform they're in development for isn't known at this time.
Misc. Media A brief new gameplay movie from Devil May Cry 2 is up at PS2.IGN, while GameSpot has a bunch of new media from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (GBA) and Games Are Fun has new shots from Unlimited SaGa (PS2). |
Console Game of the Evening: Kirby's Dream Land for Game Boy. A little on the cutesy side, but still quite fun.

Yeah, you could be on to something about a new Castlevania game. I remember reading an interview with the team responsible for Symphony of the Night once re: Harmony of Dissonance, and how it started out as a new 2D Castlevania game on the PS2 and ended up going GBA due to Circle of the Moon's success. It mentioned a bit about how just because they're making a GBA game now doesn't mean they're not going to still come out with a new 2D Castlevania on one of the big 3 consoles (PS2/GC/XBX). They said there was another in the works, and until they're done with HoD, consider it put on hold.
