Ensuring that we really will get one new Tony Hawk's Pro Skater title a year for well...ever, Activision has signed the merchandising goldmine that is Mr. Hawk for an exclusive contract through 2015. That means we'll all be playing Tony Hawk 17 on PlayStation 5 or as I like to hope, Sega's Genesis Mark X or the Atari 26000. This is total insanity, but somehow I'd be shocked if EA's contract with John Madden (or any of their sports figures) isn't three or four times this. For Activision's sake, I hope the games stay fun for that long. Their track record's good so far, but let's see how the series has evolved in ten years.

GameCube PS2 Xbox GameBoy Advance Sales, Sales and More Sales Proving that Super Mario Sunshine really was the game everyone was waiting for, the game has sold a whopping 400,000 copies since its release in Japan just four days ago. But of course, that's not the only sales news of the day...Microsoft has announced that Project Gotham Racing is the third Xbox title to break the million mark, and the latest NPD Funworld stats are up at PlanetXbox, which has Medal of Honor: Frontline breaking in at #1, with the twin GTA3 games (Grand Theft Auto and Gran Turismo A-Spec) still fighting away at #2 and #3 respectively.
GameCube PS2 Xbox Star Wars Games Galore GameSpot has posted new previews of several new Star Wars titles tonight...Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast for Xbox and GameCube, The Clone Wars for GameCube and Bounty Hunter for the PS2 and GameCube.
GameCube Blood Omen 2 for GameCube Because someone at Eidos suddenly realized there was another platform to release the game on, it was announced today that Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2 will be released for the GameCube (the success of the M-rated Eternal Darkness probably helped too).
Xbox New Buffy Shots Xbox.IGN has posted 40 new black & white screenshots from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the action title from The Collective, who are also working on an Indiana Jones game for LucasArts.
GameCube EA Supports Progressive Scan on GC At their recent Camp EA event, Electronic Arts confirmed that they are finally supporting progressive scan output in their GameCube titles, starting with their EA Sports 2003 lineup. I was surprised they didn't...I was under the impression that Nintendo was requiring it for all titles (maybe that only applies to first and second party developers?).
GameBoy Advance SSX GBA Shots Some very impressive looking screenshots from the handheld version of SSX are up at Pocket.IGN tonight. This looks to be a quality conversion along the lines of the Tony Hawk titles, which while not exactly the same as their bigger siblings, are still great games in their own right.
PS2 Auto Modellista Shots GameSpot has posted new screenshots from Auto Modellista, the upcoming cel-shaded racing game from Capcom that supports online gaming through Sony's broadband network in Japan. The glut of cel-shaded games has worn the novelty of it down somewhat, but a few games, like this one and the upcoming Robotech: Battlecry really do look great.
Xbox Xbox Expands Globally Good news for our foreign readers...Microsoft has confirmed plans to release the Xbox in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Mexico and New Zealand. Pricing and dates have yet to be announced.
Xbox Steel Battalion Shots New shots from Tekki, the mech sim better known in America under the name Steel Battalion, can be found at XenGamers tonight.
Console Game of the Evening: SSX for the PlayStation 2. There aren't many sports games I like (even "extreme" sports) but this one is a great deal of fun. SSX Tricky is a nice follow-up, although I didn't see enough there to warrant buying the game a second time.
