Last week I saw this article about the long and tortured history of Tetris at Atari HQ linked by Slashdot, and I finally had a chance to read it over the weekend. For the unaware, over the years Tetris has been sort of "the game that launched a thousand lawsuits" and this article chronicles the whole story, from its genesis to the eventual creation of the Tetris Corporation that overseas licensing of the property now. It's a great, great article about one of the most perfect games ever created, particularly if you've never heard the whole story about the Nintendo/Atari/Tengen lawsuit way back when.

GameCube Super Mario Sunshine Craziness The game's officially out in Japan, and so the previews are piling up. Gamers.com has posted more of their excellent look at the game, while IGN, CvG and GameSpot have hands-on impressions up and XenGamers has some new gameplay movies online.
NeoGeo - thanks Sur3aL! SNK Goes Retro Playmore, the current holder of all things SNK, has announced that they have licensed their Metal Slug and King of Fighters franchise to a Scottish developer, who will be porting the games for Java enabled cell phones.
Xbox Microsoft Announces New Estimates Well they made their previous (slightly adjusted) estimates, so Microsoft has announced new ones for the current fiscal year. Microsoft now expects to sell between 9 and 11 million Xbox consoles this year.
Dreamcast New Sega Arcade Technology Confirmed The Dreamcast may be dead, but at least one Sega hardware unit lives on...Sega has confirmed that they are currently researching new arcade technology. This is on top of their use of the Triforce arcade board developed by Nintendo, and is not the same as the souped up NAOMI 2 hardware being used for Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution.
Xbox Fatal Frame on Xbox Tecmo has announced that Fatal Frame, the oddball PS2 title that mixed survival horror with Pokemon Snap-style photography, will be ported to the Xbox. If you're curious, check out the game on ShackReviews.

Console Game of the Evening: Smash TV for the SNES. While none of the various home versions were as fun as the arcade, this was a solid port of a manic and insane gorefest.
