3DLabs Consumer Card This Year

8

According to CNET, 3DLabs will come out with a consumer videocard later this year. Back in March, Creative bought 3DLabs (story). 3DLabs had been making high end cards for the past few years, but is now going to try and compete with NVidia and ATI. Related is this press release, where they announced their "ground-breaking Visual Processing Architecture".

yeah I don't really see the logic in entering a field you're going to be crushed in

how would they be crushed? We don't know what their tech will do at this point, I for one would say its all good. Lets see what they can do and if they can compete, if not so what the market will tell them... If they can great the market gets cheaper :D (it certainly can't be worse than ATI's driver support ;P).

I agree. Plus theyve been in the consumer market before. Just not a great one. Permedia chip anyone? 3dlads has been well respected int he workstation era. They have some top notch engineers. Hopefull this will be a decent card and make prices drop.
