Late Night Consoling
Finally, some good news on the Xbox front to report...this story at Eurogamer has the news that Microsoft, no doubt bowing to pressure put on them from investors, has decided to lower the European price of the system to €299 (about $260). This will almost certainly help Xbox sales in Europe, where the system previously went for the obscene price of €479 (about $420) and oddly enough, makes this the first time in recent memory that an American console has sold in Europe for less than its domestic price.
- Never one to let Square hog the spotlight on anything for too long, Koei has formally unveiled Nobunaga's Ambition Online, a massively multiplayer RPG for PS2. This game appears to be a standard MMORPG, a distinct contrast to the turn based strategy of the previous Nobunaga's Ambition titles.
- Over at PS2.IGN they have a look at the latest in Koei's other big strategy series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII.
- GameSpot has posted a hands-on look at the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Xbox game that's in the works at The Collective.
- Also at GameSpot tonight are new shots from Crazy Taxi 3, the latest in this series that has made the jump from Dreamcast to Xbox (with a few stops along the way).
- Great news for old-school LucasArts fans: Totally Games (the people behind X-Wing and Tie Fighter among others) has signed on to create a new WWII flight sim in the tradition of Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe for both PC and consoles.
- According to GameSpot, several unannounced and unconfirmed games popped up on Nintendo's web site recently, including Super Mario World X (GC), Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (GC), Duke Nukem Retribution (GBA) and Grand Theft Auto III (GBA). Also, Zelda Universe and Pichu Bros: Party Panic showed up on the ESRB's site. So how many of these are real, and how many are mistakes? We'll know at E3, I suppose.
- XenGamers has translated a Q&A with Yoshiki Okamoto of Capcom, where the software director talks about their plans for the GameCube.
- Sorry kids, even if some of those recent rumors about Rareware turn out to be true, no sequel to Killer Instinct is planned.
