VIA Latency Patch

15

VIA Hardware has posted a new patch for VIA chipset based motherboards, fixing PCI latency problems related to IDE and audio for even more motherboards. Standby and Hibernate power management are now also finally supported in Win2k and XP and CPUs should even run cooler.

Will it eventually be in the 4-in-1's?

this patch is made by George Breese, and not by VIA. George has long been making patches to improve on performance/stability on VIA boards. They often fix many of the problems that the 4-1s dont address.

I've heard that the patch(es) that address the latency issue actually disable some of the chipsets features in order to achieve the PCI latency stability that they're looking for. This has always been an issue with all VIA boards. They are notorious in pro-audio circles for their latency issues. Some add on boards are rendered almost useless due to PCI latency problems from the VIA chipsets. (i.e. CRE@MWARE LUNA cards, etc.)
