Nakatomi Plaza Interview

17
HomeLAN Fed's newest interview is with Bryan Ekman, lead designer of Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza. This FPS, based on the 1988 Bruce Willis movie, is nearing completion at Piranha Games. JCal asks Ekman about the roots of the game, which started as a Half-Life mod before being turned into a full blown game by Fox Interactive, how they managed to lengthen the game beyond the 2 hours of the movie, gameplay features, the weapons you'll be using, if having the game take place in the Nakatomi Plaza building was limited in any way, why they are using the LithTech engine, enemies you'll encounter in the game, why there won't be multiplayer support (that = poo poo), if a demo will be released and what the game's current status is. Three new screenshots of the game are included as well.

HomeLAN - Do you feel that the setting of the game (the Nakatomi Plaza building) limits what kinds of things you can put into the level design of the game?

Bryan Ekman - WeÂ’re very limited in scope and content, so we focused our attention on making the worlds detailed and the characters as interactive as possible. In one scene (in the forthcoming demo), a terrorist ambushes the player slips rolls, lands and falls of the roof. WeÂ’ve put in a lot of custom animations to help make the world feel alive.
