Survivor Friday!
Well as I was done fake rock climbing last night, I noticed four missed calls on my cell. Turns out when I got home, Steve, Berenger and his wife were just at the end of the show on the Tivo. I was all pissy and headed upstairs. When I thought it was over, I headed out of my room just to hear Jeff read a vote of "Silas." Pissy that I thought I knew the outcome, I yelled a few curses downstairs for them not waiting up and stuff, but they said the show was so good they'd watch it again.
Welp, it sure was. They weren't lying last week when they said "watch the first 15 minutes," because in that they changed the entire game. Mixing up the tribes was a stroke of genius, as the game was in a virtual deadlock. The "age strife" tribe was going to whittle down until the merge, where (if there were any left), the old people would switch sides and pick off the rest of their former tribe. On the other side, grandma was pretty much as good as voted off next. Basically, both teams were about to make the game boring for a few weeks.
Watching Lex, Tom, and whats-her-name going with all of the late-sleeping slackers was great. It really showed off how bad these kids had gotten. And seeing "strong" Lindsey cry a few more times, well, this game really shows how people who seem very secure on the outside can be the most weak.
But the real show was Silas being a jackass. I hated this guy from the get-go, and seeing him in an environment of people that simply wouldn't take his shit was wonderful. He was a moron plain and simple, and this team simply didn't need that. So much so that when his team actually THREW the immunity challenge, well, that just was amazing (and hilarious). There was so much here, and if anything his actions energized both of the teams. The new team with Lex and Tom showed that they COULD win together, and the team with Silas were brought together in their hatred of him.
An interesting point Zoid brought up to me today though is that he didn't like them "changing" the game like that. The fact that they broke alliances and modified the "rules" in the middle of the game was really annoying to him. I don't necessarily agree, but it's an interesting point of view to bring up.
Highlights? A lot. Tom being a dirty old man pulling the tick off of Lindsey's ass. Lindsey crying AGAIN. Greeting new team members with "Hey, do you guys sleep all day too?" Ethan's face when dealing with Silas. Clarence's smile at the end. Jeff's ominous "assumumptions" speech at the end. People throwing the immunity challenge while Silas is scrambling. And the best part - Brandon's "I'm glad I'm gay, because after this I don't think I could ever deal with another crying woman."
